There was a fault on the CBBC Channel earlier, a BBC TWO ident appeared before Dennis The Menace, then a CBBC breakdown caption, then the programme started a few minutes in.

"Great Ocean Road" seems to be the standard breakdown track now, as it was used during a break in some racing coverage on BBC ONEa few months ago... Still, it's better than the looped BBC ONE Daytime music they used at one point - and a bit better than the standard breakdown track they used in the late 90's...

One audio server, apparently shared between two channels. Another example of technology which encourages laziness - oh for the days of lacing up Revox...

This might be my imagination, but this week Great Ocean Road has sounded "blasting" during Ceefax, as if the input level was too high. Anyone else found that?

And since you've mentioned daytime, the Hippos music was used in the menu before Neighbours today.

I bet they are.

I actually, if I'm honest, have to partially agree with Luxxo on this one. There's something just wrong about the wording on the CBBC caption that I can't put my hand on.

Perhaps it's because of the tone of uncertainly in it compared to the normal one?

What's wrong with a server shared between 2 channels?..... the point of a server is to serve a number of diffrent things. There'd be no point in a server per channel

As for 'lacing up Revox', that's all very well but it's not as good as pressing play on a computer screen!

It's better technology, of course it is. But just because something is technically possible does not necessarily make it desirable (same Ceefax music every morning, recorded announcements...)

Indeed, I still believe it's only 12 minutes of ads which can be broadcast and hour, otherwise it breaches ofcom regulations.
It does vary depending on the time of day - prime time is allowed a little more. I'm sure someone round here will know the exact figures off the top of their head.

Wow, someone's missed me. Well, this must be my third post this year.

I can't remember all the exact rules, but for the non-main terestrial broadcasters they can play up to 12 mins max per hour with up to 4 mins max per break. The total number of minutes per day is worked out as to how many hours per day you transmit, somewhere in the region of 216 minutes per day on a 24 hour channel. This mean you obviously can't have every hour at 12 mins, but entirely up to the channel how they weight this. The rules for the likes of ITV, 4 and five are different, they more limited on their break patterns and durations but don't ask me what they are.

As for the comments on audio servers, bring back carts, easier then lacing up a Studer (I mean, Revox were for home hi-fi's weren't they Wink ). The audio servers are fine, they record at higher quality than 1/4", don't pop out for a gossip or pee like those announcers do, or those blasted minidiscs, which by the time they had been recorded over 6 billion times the TOC's became knackered and you had corrupt unplayable disks.

Ah, but if it is better and possible... then it is desirable! Rolling Eyes

Allowing the same two tracks to start EVERY session of Ceefax is certainly not desirable!

An insignificant moan in the grand scheme of things, but since the audio server is pre-programmed and no-one has to cue up a CD/MD to order, no-one cares whether the same tunes are pumped out ad nauseum.

Because... no one expects anyone to watch Pages from Ceefax. It's just a filler, preferable to black. I'm sure it won't last much longer.

Last time I looked you could select any file on the audio server and play it manually until your ears begin to bleed.

Of course playing the same track over and over again in breakdowns is just to annoy you.
