I think it's fair enough to say that the vast majority of idents on British TV are, at the moment, pants.
Sky have banished corporate identity, which is a great shame as the network looked so much better in the 1993-1997 era.
The BBC have lost themselves in a balloon, ITV... do I really need to comment? And Channel 4 and 5 don't seem to have put a great deal of effort in.
BBC 2 remain at the top IMO. I don't think the 2 idents are the best idents ever created - most original, yes - but they are certainly the best at the moment.
Anyone watching C4 earlier? They said 'and that's a new look C4 on Monday and a new look line up with afternoon programmes starting fifteen minutes earlier than you may be expecting' or something like that. Not that I'm getting my hopes up but if they were referring to the schedule, they'd surely only say 'new look' once?
Well, I think that the HTV (carlton) idents are the best!

I think they actually have got new idents, because I saw (what I thought) was a new ident just before Countdown.

Simple idents seem to be popular these days....
A great shame since I loved the animations used by Sky from 1990 to about 1995 (2 sets I think), and they also had pretty good music to go with them. They also had a corporate identidy which is good... nowadays it all seems a bit fragmented.
The BBC idents are good, especially the 2s of course... a bit bored of the balloon, again, it isn't very creative... just a balloon going around places with BBC ONE superimposed on the picture but I suppose they will replace those in the near future. I also quite like the BBC Knowledge idents...

4learning has new idents, so it's logical C4 would too.
