Considering C5 recently had a comp for a holiday for London, it wouldn't surprise me if it's that low budget.

I don't understand this. They had a competition to win a trip to London on the doc about Kings Cross because it was a relevant prize to the series. It wasn't just a cheap day return, either. If they really wanted to save money, they wouldn't have done a competition at all.

IIRC you can't just run a random competition on air, it has to be linked to the programme somehow.

I'm not sure about that, Big Brother were giving away a trip to the Maldives all summer.

It makes complete sense to link the prize to the show, though. And the London competition is for a five star hotel in a major city, it's hardly a weekend in Rhyl. Most of these prizes are blagged in so it's practically money for nothing for them.

Of course they are to raise money, like the competitions on ITV Daytime from premium rate calls, rather than the minimal cost of a weekend break in London and a first class trip on Virgin Trains East Coast. find it a bit tacky running competitions in a recorded documentary series though.

I'm not sure they do have to be linked to the programme, I'm sure in the middle of On the Yorkshire Buses it was a foreign holiday, not a trip to Scarborough.

I knew I wasn't making it up, so unless the rules have been relaxed since March 2015, a competition has to have some relevance to the programme.

The following Broadcast Bulletin details a Channel 5 competition that fell foul of this rule, summed up in the final paragraph:

Quote:
Because the competition neither enabled viewers to participate or otherwise
contribute directly to the editorial content of the programme, nor constituted
‘programme-related material’, we concluded that the competition was in breach of the
Code.

Breach of Rule 9.27

For reference, here's the rule:

Quote:
Rule 9.27: “Premium rate telephony services will normally be regarded as products
or services, and must therefore not appear in programmes, except where:
a) they enable viewers to participate directly in or otherwise contribute
directly to the editorial content of the programme; or
b) they fall within the meaning of programme-related material.”

They're filming tonight at Studio 2 of TLS. Preview of the titles and what looks like the set on the screens.

Going on that photo it looks like they're using Studio 2 rather than 1.

How have you determined that?

The bottom left screen appears to show audience seating which looks smaller than Studio 1.

As it happens, Asa did say it was being shot in Studio 2 when he shared the tweet - I missed that.

I see, well the chap in the red check shirt is the director Steve Smith, the chap next to him is the vision mixer, dunno who the lady is.

Managed to get a ticket during the week for taping last Saturday. Friday morning SRO Audiences tell me the recording for last Saturday had been cancelled and will be re-scheduled.

Paul wouldn't use Cilla's "quick reminder" catchphrase with "Mel" in place of "Graham"... would he? Embarassed

I wonder if the real Arr Graham was available to actually take the role. Maybe the fresh new audience they're targeting wouldn't have given a toss.
