it wasn't anything like what it was by the time it finished in the first place.

Which is why Cilla quite live on air!

Wasn't that a face saving manoeuvre? Pretty surePaul Jackson(then ITV Entertainment boss) revealed in a documentary recently that he had tipped off her son/agent that she or the show was going to be dropped and to prepare for the inevitable.

Not really he was clearly telling her that her time was up.
The show had already had a massive overhaul months earlier.

Emma Willis is apparently the new favourite to host.

Yeah he was on the Fight for Saturday Night documentary and explained they'd tried a couple of tweaks "which you shouldn't do because they never work" and he'd said to Cilla's son acting now as her agent that she should 'consider what she'd like to do' - basically bow out gracefully or it'll be axed. In the end she used the final tweak, the live ep, to announce it. Nicely done.

Indeed, the final series was an enormous flop and it was as certain as Christmas that it was on the way out, it had already been dumped to teatime and the revamp they had was a desperate last throw of the dice. Even the most casual viewer could have worked that out.

I wish, though, people wouldn't expect it to be exactly like when Cilla did it, aimed at the same audience and doing exactly the same thing. It's a different era. It was mentioned up there, but anyone under the age of 25 has never watched it, so they have no expectations as to what it's "supposed" to be like. If they want to aim it at a younger audience than when it was on primetime ITV, so what? It's not like they're going to physically tape it over the original episodes, are they?

When they revived Top Gear in 2002, it was a bit different to how it used to be, but that did alright, didn't it? I don't recall many people crying that it wasn't the same as Old Top Gear.

But they can't interfere with the show too much - remember, it is a brought in American format.

It used to really wind me up that at no time did LWT ever put 'based on The Dating Game distributed by Columbia - TriStar ' on the credits.

Your life must be pretty damn good if that's what used to wind you up.
ukpetey, peteprodge and Hatton Cross gave kudos

Yeah. I do like proper and correct crediting, and if shows are local versions of overseas formats I would expect to see the format creators and the format distributers given a couple of lines in the credits.

I'm no historian but Blind Date was pretty old hat by then. Remember, the first Pop Idol had been on the year before and was massive at the time, and set out the framework for the next decade (and more) of Saturday night programming on ITV.

I don't think it's up to you to determined what proper and correct crediting is. If you're paying x amount of money for a show unless the company you're paying require you to do so as part of the contract. There is no sane reason for you to tell people this.

RTE's version of University Challenge never gave a credit to the College Bowl Company. Just thought I'd say that. Wink
