If anyone remembers the 2002 series was so bad that Cilla actually announced she was quitting live on air, with the production crew having no idea until she did it.

I think some of the production crew had an inkling that something was afoot. Perhaps not exactly what, but something.

I don't know whether it's just me that can't see anything drop down at 13:34, but that version of the screen seems to have been the most problematic.

I thought the director seemed pretty on the ball in cutting to the audience for their reaction. However Cilla claims that it had been planned for her to do a bit which involved the audience saying Happy New Year to each other, so the shot would have been set up already.

It's a testament to her professionalism that she was able to slot it so seamlessly into a live show. Also I don't think she got enough credit for being able to host the live version as well as she did, with limited recent experience in live television.

Tommy Sandhu. He was a former Blind Date contestant and now is a reporter for The One Show.

Indeed, and on the One Show on Friday, when Paul O'Grady was a guest, they linked into a report from him by pointing that out.

Graham Skidmore, he was really only known for Blind Date and the V/O for Shooting Stars. Apart from that not much actually.
DE88, Brekkie and Jon gave kudos

Only just realised Our Graham was the also iconic voice over from Shooting Stars. Thank you.

Ah well spotted. That looks intentional - a purple curtain or something. Perhaps the design of the screen meant you could see inside the wall and it didn't look great.

Did they change the screen/set at all in 94? Clips I've seen on YT remains the same in 1994.

Yes they took the weird grey marble effect away from the Autumn 94 series onwards, just leaving purple/blue. I don't think the design of the screen changed, but from 1994 onwards it didn't go all the way back, meaning it didn't need anything to drop down and cover up the gap.

Week three and no LGBTQ+7 (or whatever the acronym is this week) yet, which makes it seems like the afterthought, in which case they'd have been better off not bothering.

Paul's really carrying it and I hope ITV nab it for themselves if they can save the show, as it'll only do a couple of series on 5.
