"Celebrities on Benefits" is the newest offering from Channel 5. I have to ask, why are Channel 5 so over obsessed with people on benefits?

Because it brings them viewers and makes them money.

Didn't BBC One do a similar one off programme a year or so ago? I seem to recall that time it included Larry Lamb.

I suppose it depends whether they're putting celebrities on benefits, or finding celebrities already on benefits.

Not to mention pushing a very damaging narrative that is overstating a problem.

How do you if the commissions were already rubber stamped and Viacom just had to go with it, or big fines were on the way? Like others have said you can't change programming line up unless you have no stuff.

I'd say the benefits stuff is definitely a hangover from N&S and they've just had to run with it.

Isn't the programming commissioner still the same person?

Would be interesting to know the demos for these sort of shows - is it posh folk looking down or people in similar situations themselves, who surely aren't that attractive to advertisers.

C5 is terrible though at the moment - every other show seems to have "Benefits" in the title and it's all part of the disgusting Tory mindset to put hundreds of thousands out of work then laugh at them because they haven't got a job.

Yes same commissioners, several of these benefits shows have been commissioned since the Viacom takeover.

The reveal of that rebrand seems to be running a little late.
