I wonder if they will time the new look with the launch of The X Files? They did that in 2008 when they launched a new launch at 9pm just before Paul Merton in India.

The relaunch in 2008 was before Unbreakable, and the 2006 relaunch before Prison Break. The current look however, launched at 9.15am on a Monday morning. I think before The X-files is a good bet, but also Monday 1st February is a 'nice' date, it being a Monday and the first day of the month.

5* are showing an evening of Classic X-Files on Sunday 7 February so I think it's safe to assume the series starts week beginning 8 February. A repeat is scheduled Thursday night on 5*.

If X-files is going in a 10pm slot then Tuesday is the only option, but any night is possible if it's 9pm given Celebrity Big Brother vacates that slot.

I would have thought any channel rebrand would wait until CBB has finished too, so I would go with Monday 8th.

Whoops.

Quote:
A Channel 5 scheduler has resigned after mistakenly broadcasting a post-watershed version of Benefits Brits by the Sea on two separate occasions.

The observational documentary, which follows benefit claimants living in Great Yarmouth, contained more than 40 explicit swear words and was originally intended for a 9pm broadcast.

C5 digital channel 5* prepared a pre-watershed version with the swearing removed for two 8pm slots on 14 and 19 October.

But the scheduler accidentally selected the foul-mouthed version, despite “a red flag” warning indicating its unsuitability for a pre-watershed broadcast.

Five days later, he made the same mistake again and broadcast the explicit post-watershed version for a second time.

Ofcom received a handful of complaints and consequently challenged C5 to explain what had gone wrong.

I hope this is the same scheduler who decided to randomly skip an episode of Person Of Interest on a first run back in August.

In other news I've read on a516digital.com that 5+24 is getting its hours extended on Freeview, not sure if this is to match Sky/Virgin schedule. One of the teleshopping broadcasters has announced their new slot starting 1 Feb.

Channel 5 +24 will be pretty that from 9am to midnight. Extra repeats of Neighbours will fill the 5 News slots.

"A handful of complaints". This annoys me. Why should the views of a few 'easily offended' people trump everyone else who watched and didn't have a problem? They could have turned over if they didn't like hearing the swearing. I honestly think some people have Ofcom on speed dial and look for things to complain about. Rolling Eyes

Well the number of complaints is almost irrelevant as it was a breach of the broadcasting code. Ofcom would have had to take action even if no one complained at all -- indeed, they frequently spot issues like this through their own monitoring systems.

I noticed in the crap ads section of the Evening Standard today that there was a casting call for a new dating show on 5*. Original shows on the channel are few and far between so I wonder if there'll be a bit more of a push for the channel post the upcoming C5 refresh. I hope they give it a new name, the brand is incredibly cheap and as a channel it's a real mish mash of programmes and could definitely do with a bit more of a focus.

Little update on the building of Channel 5's future home.
As of tonight, still no outside walls/windows/foliage.
