Hi this is my first post, I wondered what the forum thought of the current 'dirty' ITN 5 news look and whether they had any ideas on the new look next year.
I know that the new look will launch on the 14th of January and that it'll be dark blue, with Kirsty Young sitting behind the desk.
I'm very impressed with the forum and as an observer over the last few months I'd like to congratulate Asa for his excellent website.
Will 5news breakfast be coming back as the ITN News Channel coverage is completely different to that of the old 5news programme, I remember something about costs and the 1930hrs bulletin as the reason for replacing 5news brakfast with ITN News Channel.
5 News at Breakfast was axed due to costs, at the same time of axing the programme some staff were lost as well. The ITN News channel will stay as 5 News can't afford to produce the breakfast programme anymore. Who remembers it when it launched it was presented by ex SKY NEWS launch team member Scott Chisholm. It was called 5 News Early.

Dark blue and a desk, exactly how I imagined it!!! Fantastic stuff, I can't wait! Let's hope they sort out the sound as well because you can sometimes hear the rest of the studio during halfhour bulletins (i.e. without background music).
Incidentally, how do you know about it?!?!

The sound is likely to be a problem because the old 5 News set is STILL the current one. Where Kirsty used to walk around is just a grey old newsroom, the video wall gone, the sport zone now just desks... The studio is just at the end of it, no sound profing, so every now and again you can hear a police car going past or someones mobile beeping!
Nice one, a ITN insider on the forum now, makes a change from the usual BBC types that frequent this forum. How are they planning on installing the new set whilst the old one is still in place, can they just put it up overnight ?
Scott was a rather unique character. If I recall he used to present with a certain Ms Callister on Sky News, who later married another Sky News presenter. How lovely.
Scott left Sky in about 1993 and went on to work for Talk Radio he did a phone-in thingy and ocasionally stood in for James Whale. Haven't listened to Whale for... ages, thank god.
Dark blue, sounds all very cosy. The current look is crap, too white and clean. There's clean and then there's too clean.
Something I'd ask Channel 5 to retain is 'Five Facts'. Some of them may be the most blatently obvious facts you've ever come across but others are genuinely useful and so often news organisations pre-suppose that you understand most of what you're talking about when often that simply isn't the case.
Channel 5 is improving quite a lot. They've ditched The Wright Stuff in favour of a morning topical affairs programme, and quite right too. I found him to be an irritating little tosser. Ms Hunniford now rules afternoon TV and I think all that remains is for Channel 5 to produce a 6-9am breakfast TV programme. Perhaps along the lines of a more newsy GMTV, something I've been asking for, for quite some time. Would be a ratings winner.

I didn't even know they'd scrapped The Wright Stuff. Do you think a morning breakfast show would work, what would happen to Milkshake. Since ITN couldn't afford to run 5 News at Breakfast if they were to do a show like that it wouldn't be an ITN porduced show but produced by another copany with regular small bulitins in it previded by ITN like they do with the Big Breakfast News.

I know this because I work there!
Would you be able to suggest to the heads at 5news to make their bulletins available online? Thanks.

Sorry to be a little cheeky (I can't help it!) but could you answer a few questions?
- Is the music staying?
- Will it be widescreen?
- What will become of Charlie Stayt?
- Is Kirsty as lovely in real life?
- Will there be a theme or a logo (like the ITN arrow)?
