Sky News does not want to wipe out News24, they have already said they accept the competition and see News24 as a rival, they do not want it closed down this was said during an address to the Commons.
Sky merely want to have the ability to compete with News24. The fact is it is currently the BBC who are forcing other channels off networks.
You are right, people should have a choice but sadly because News24 has pushed Sky off many cable platforms people do not have a choice!
Sky simply want News24 to be attached onto the BBC Worldwide arm so that they can have the chance to compete with News24 in equal proportions.
This is of course despite the fact that Sky News gets much higher viewing figures in cable homes than News24, despite the fact that it is available in less of them.
Murdoch does OWN many many media groups, he does not however RUN all of them.
He employs directors and chairmen to do all of that for him, Sam Chisholm (ex-chairman of BSkyB, and until retiring he was considered to be the top guy in the UK media industry) was totally different to Murdoch and hence Murdoch has deep envy for what Chisholm achieve, the fact that BSkyB's share price was higher than News Corp's incensed Murdoch, Murdoch actually doesn't like Sky that much you know!

You also seem to forget that Sky News' Coverage is determined by what they offer to others, Sky and cable show sky news, but they did not offer it to ONdigital, and with your opinon on BBC wanting a monopoly thats just obsured! If they wanted a monopoly, they would of either put News24 on analogue or brought it out sooner on cable.
Sky News were happy untill News 24 started and now they want to remove it!!!!
Who is after a monopoly now!
Oh and BTW, BBC spend more than sky do, maybe thats another reason sky are Jealous of BBC News 24.
That's rubbish and you know it.
The BBC spend more on News24 because they are one of the biggest fiscal disasters of our time!
Sky did offer it to OnDigital they were not however prepared to pay for it.
Sky even offered a truncated version of Sky News to OnD and they still rejected it.
As I said in my previous post Sky do not want to 'remove' News24, but simply want the chance to compete with it on all cable platforms.
News24 knocked Sky off cable and quite rightly Sky want to have the places stolen off them back!
Once the 96% for the BBC and 76% for Sky is levelled out then Sky have said they will be perfectly happy..
You arguement about the BBC not bringing News24 'out' sooner does not constitute a 'monopoly', it simply means they were slower to act.
News24 was released on cable as soon as it launched and on SkyD as soon as it launched and on OnD as soon as it launched....
'The Panel's recommendations for additional funding fail to take into account the adverse effects that new licence fee funded services can create. The introduction of Sky News, for example, increased plurality in British broadcasting by offering a third and impartial source of domestic television news. However, Sky News has been displaced by BBC News 24 in many cable homes not because the BBC service is better, but because it is being wholesaled free to cable operators using public funding. When licence fee funding is used unfairly to crowd out competing services and create barriers to potential new entrants, 'diversity of voice' is reduced. The ability of the BBC to use additional public funding to launch services in many other areas risks undermining confidence and the willingness to invest by other market players.'

If Sky want News 24 to be attached to BBC Worldwide's arm, then what are BBC News 24 going to call themselves, they can't call themselves BBC News 24 can they!
err. why not?
Is there a restriction on names or something?
The only difference would be that finances would come from BBC Worldwide and that there would be adverts.
So News24 would be from BBC Worldwide and have adverts.
soz chesh but...
Oh for heavens sake.
How many times is this going to come up?
BBC WORLD IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE UK AS IT IS AN ADVERTISING FUNDED SERVICE.
The fact that they can edit out the adverts is not the point! It is funded by adverts and hence the BBC will not let you watch it.
As long as BBC World carries adverts you will not be able to see it.
They tried a non advert version called World Service Television, and whoever thinks the finances are in one group is very very wrong.
BBC World is attached to the BBC Worldwide arm, and hence gets its money from adverts.
BBC News 24 is attached to BBC News and hence gets its money from a license fee.
If you want it so bloody badly go and stick a dish to the side of your house and turn it to 13 Deg. East!!!!!
Please can we stop starting this thread over and over again!?!?
If you want to watch BBC World it is available via the internet and that is how it will remain.
Yes, BBC World is funded by adverts and restrictions do not allow it to be shown.
The restrictions would have to be altered... surely you could have worked that out yourself?
But why should they alter the restrictions for news24 but not for world.
Basically what you have suggested is an edited version of what you have been whinging on about everyytime the topic of BBC World being shown in the uk (
which i agree comes up far too often
) in this forum.
It is not me who is suggesting that BBC News24 should be attached onto BBC Worldwide, the BBC have put it down as one of their solutions to the problem of funding the channel and the government have said that this is a likely course of action for them to take.....
There is nothing about ME in it.
Idiot.

No but you agreed to it, i fink, hang on i'll check.
No you didn't
My mistake, sorry
However the BBC's recomendation is what they, themselves and all those odd little departments of theirs have told people who have asked for World in the UK.
A few years ago many young children wrote to Walkers crisps suggesting that they bring out a flavour called CHEESE AND OWEN, to compliment salt and liniker. Walkers replied saying that it was a nice idea however they didn't take suggestions from outside sources.
Then their own product team had an idea
Why not bring out a flavour called CHEESE AND OWEN, to compliment salt and liniker? Walkers thought this was a fantastic idea and put it into practice.
And what happened to the little kids, they got cheese and owen, but not the credit when it was their idea in the first place.
The Culture Media and Sport Select Committee previously stated its desire for the Government's funding review 'to examine the scope for the commercial development of News 24 in a fair market'. However, this was not addressed in the review. A solution that would eliminate competitive distortions and generate further revenues for the BBC is for the Corporation to transfer BBC News 24 to its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, where it would charge for cable carriage and generate additional revenue from subscriptions and/or advertising if appropriate.
6. BBC News 24 should also be removed from the BBC's public service arm because it fails to conform to the Corporation's own commitment to fulfil the following specific criteria before using licence fee payers' money: BBC News 24 was launched into a commercial market already providing services of equivalent 'range and quality'; it is not, and will not within any reasonable period of time, be 'accessible to all'; it does not demonstrate an 'appeal to audiences such as to justify funding'; and whether it is 'affordable to the BBC against other priorities' has been questioned by many.
As you have agreed to it i could start having a go at you again but frankly i can't be arsed.
If news24 was transfered to worldwide wouldn't it be a bit like the UKTV channels?
Mind you if it wasn't with (is it flexitech or someone who runs them along with the beeb) that would mean a change in the law to aloow the BBC to broadcast commecially funded programmes 9which could pave the way for BBC World happy happy joy joy etc...)
However in this country the BBC is liked for NOT having adverts. Surely if they brought in ads it would make the channel a bit more like shy news and therefore make it lose its charactor?
