Who is this channel aimed at? All channels are on Freeview, and with programming such as the Yorkshire Vet at 9pm, it's hardly setting the world alight.

I'm not so sure. It comes across to me as a rejigged My5, with a slightly more raised profile.

Sounds like 5Select has a new continuity announcer during primetime. Its Lola Buckley.....ex BBC Choice and then BBC Three. Such a distinctive voice.

If I recall correctly she left BBC Three about 2/3 years before the channel went off air and has not been heard since.....till now.

I really like the current 5 logos and general channel branding (maybe less the idents), but hate when they rush a launch such as this and make stupid decisions in the process. As previously mentioned, the Prime letters float in the background of the idents still (they only fixed the initial floating ones at the start I think). Who even thought that the name 5Prime would get past Amazon in the first place? If we want to go further back, why did they even call a channel the same name as their catch up service? Why did they bother rebranding this channel as "premium" content, only to then seem to show pretty much the same crud as before AND the crud that is available on all their other channels every day anyway?

I guess it's just a case of throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks. Except the wall isn't sticky anymore.
Lurker!

5Select's schedule is disappointing except perhaps for Irish legal drama Striking Out which has done well on RTE.

Unnecessarily huge DOG with the // and especially when you add the BRAND NEW bit to the right (surely that could be underneath if it must be there).

The ‘Prime’ background still happening... even during idents. Half arsed, but what do you expect from a rushed launch orchestrated by Channel 5 of all channels?

I can make out letters "S" "E" "C" "T" in the background (freeze the 9:10am ident at 2 seconds) but dont see any "P" "R" "I" "M" floating about, so where is the prime in this ident then??

Are you closing your eyes for the last ten seconds? Laughing In the most important part of the ident the background only has PRIME floating about, with the stylised ‘R’ and ‘E’ prominent

The old My5 (channel) idents had the letters from all the other C5 spinoff channels in their idents, such as the 'R' mentioned above, IIRC. I can only assume that part of the 5Select ident is just a bit of the old My5 pres repurposed in another colour - the 'R' coming from '5Star'. That would also explain why there's a U in the same image - coming from 5USA. Obviously a channel launch done on the cheap.

Nope. It’s all 5Prime.
A terrible hastily done (much like 5Primes presentation) illustration of what I mean ahead

Crikey, you're right. If they could be bothered to change the first half of the ident, why on earth didn't they bother with the last bit?

Laziness or cost cutting. It probably saved them a very small amount of money but they considered it enough.

Again, I think the logo itself isn't giving off the impression of "premium" content. The slanted L and the strangely positioned C make it look more comedy or kids.

I'm beginning to think Channel 5 should consider a fly on the wall documentary.

I think watching Channel 5 making stupid decisions could be a ratings winner.

"Oh for bleep sake Helen what do you mean we can't use PRIME?!" "Alright, OK then, call it SELECT!... What do you mean we don't have the budget to change half of it?!.... Right... OK..... Let's keep the half of it in... nobody will work it out.
