An advert for 5 Select has just appeared on Channel 5... literally the same on screen look as My 5 but with a new logo and the programmes they are boasting as being “their best” are no different to what is usually on My 5. Very uninspiring.
I'll have to keep an eye if 5Select promotion does turn up on Channel 5 and the offshoots, but based on this, it comes across as a rejigged My5, with a more distinguishable name to boot. Even the proposed schedules, which were posted a few pages back, showed very little discrepancy to the outgoing My5 channel (with the exception of RTE's drama, Striking Out).
The more positive aspects of this change? Channel 5 are willing to bolster their content onto a new service that will have better mindshare compared to its predecessors. And it does come across to me as a slightly more serious offshoot compared to 5USA/Star/Spike.
I wish good luck to the bods at Channel 5 who are preparing to launch the channel next week.
