They could've just done the route of Discovery and had the "5" logo beside the Spike logo on the DOG, essentially showing the viewer "We're apart of the 5 family" rather than slapping the 5 logo and calling the channel 5Spike. It sounds very weird.

What? They do that in the UK as well?
Last time I checked they only did that in Italy
(with the "D")
The channel is part of the five group of channels so should be identified as such
Except it isn't. Spike is an international Viacom brand. 5 is a Viacom brand in the UK.
Except do people care that much about a relatively unknown international brand? In the 'grand scheme' Fox is well known, abc (for abc1) was well known, but Spike isn't a player with a known branding in the UK. Linking it with 5 may (or may not - considering 5's history!) do well for it.

An example from Real Time Italy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5aCDMrJMeE (but this applies to all the FTA channels they own in Italy, really: Nove DMAX, Focus, K2, Frisbee etc.)

Although unlike the other Viacom UK channels Spike is overseen by the C5 team in the same way that 5Star and 5USA are. I believe Paramount Channel will be the same when that eventually launches here.

That’s correct. Don’t forget Spike is also being phased out in the USA, not sure what implications this has internationally however bringing it in line with Channel 5 makes sense if they intend to keep the UK version of Spike on air long term.

That has a big practical effect for viewers in Ireland; “Viacom UK” channels like Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central are available in Ireland, “Channel 5” channels like 5USA and 5Star are not.
Still haven't solved the problem of two different services called My5. On trailers they have to specify "My5 Online" or "My5 TV".
I still don't understand why they changed from Demand5 which seemed a perfect name for an online on demand service, then they could have had My5 as the TV channel without any confusion.
