Croydon being it's biggest transmitter

To paraphrase President Clinton, what do you mean by '"it's"?

Do you mean legal property? I thought that "five" did not own any transmitters and that the facilities at Croydon was owned and operated by NTL? Or am I in error?

And what do you mean by "biggest"?

Croydon 37 AH 1000kW 180.10 NTL 271 TQ332696
Lichfield 37 BH 1000kW 180.21 NTL 452 SK164043

So both Croydon and Lichfield have the same power rating.

Now you did state transmitter, but "biggest" could possibly refer to height, which would be the transmitting antenna (as opposed to transmitter), and in that category, Winter Hill is the winner.

Winter Hill 48 C/DH 12.5kW 180.30 NTL 682 SD660144

Yes, it is owned by NTL, but it is the transmitter that broadcasts Channel 5... thus it is channel 5s transmitter.

Could have phrased it better, I meant in terms of audience it services and importance.

No, because 'biggest' refers to size , if I was talking about height I would have used the word 'tallest' ... but then I wouldn't have gone down that route because it's irrelevant.

Besides, in terms of transmitting antenna - the one at Croydon is bigger because it broadcasts on ch37, which is a longer wavelength than ch48

BTW, happy birthday to the Croydon mast! 48 years young yesterday I think!

(Came into service on the same day as ITV in 1955, broadcasting "Associated Rediffusion")

You wouldn't happen to know which is the biggest transmitter out of Sandy Heath, Crystal Palace and Sutton Coldfield, would you? I'm guessing it's Sandy Heath.....
