Just checking Channel 4's TV guide, they are finally dropping children's programmes on weekday mornings. The final programme airing will be The Treacle People on 7th January at 6.00am. The rest of the week it's According to Jim in that old slot. The week after Countdown repeats get moved to 6.30am.

What are channel 4's PSB commitments when it comes to children's programmes?

Oh what a shame - I used to love the Hoobs. Hopefully CBeebies or CITV pick it up.

I dont believe there have any, with Ch5 covering most of the remit.

Does the hoobs get decent figures? I don't know of anyone who ever watched it. I'd love to know how it compared with sesame st

It was a bit samey. The Hoobs would find out how humans deal with an everyday human issue, e.g. when it's appropriate to hug someone, pride, friendship, sniffles. Sadly they never had a chance to make it to the meaty issues of 'how to deal with chuggers', 'how to decide whether or not a loyalty card is worth a spot in your wallet' etc.

I always wondered why Channel 4 bothered, I thought it must have been a token effort towards a PSB commitment. I guess it probably cost nothing and the 6am hour is not a peak time of any sort.

From memory of the ratings I used to get it got about 1000-2000 viewers each morning. So not far off Bedtime Live...

Didn't they only ever make one series of The Hoobs a very long time ago? I noticed not long before Christmas they have seemed to have phased early morning kids shows out, unless there's a small slot that needs filling. Worth noting that since 1st January they have started showing How I Met Your Mother on C4 in the mornings now.

There were 5 series with 250 episodes in total.

By the looks of things it was effectively one continuous series though - since they were all aired inside a year.

The series were distinct enough that the cast changed between series. Information for series 4 and 5 seems to be incomplete on Wikipedia, so the airdates may be wrong.
