I don't care what it is, that doesn't mean I agree with him. It just means that I am interested in his thoughts, as we rarely get to hear them. It means I am willing to listen to someone else rather than just block out anything I think I will disagree with.

Has this been mentioned? Sounds like an excellent idea to me, I'd like to hear a more Eastern point of view.

Why don't you tune in to Al Jazeera! You will get plenty of Eastern points of view there!

Mmmm... didn't it turn out after they'd been released that they had actually strayed into Iranian waters!

All these MPs kicking up a fuss is exactly why C4 should be showing things like this - let's here his views, not George Bush's views of him. Yes, there's alot of things that happen in Iran that I don't agree with, but the same can be said of America and even Britain itself. And quite frankly half the people moaning about it would love to be able to go and stone a hoodie on a Sunday afternoon.

He's an angry, tyrannical despot and Channel 4 have cast a very dark shadow over everything that's good about Christmas by broadcasting this 'alternative speech' today.

I think you've overlooked the word 'Alternative'.. you can't get much more alternative. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Yep ... nice choice Channel 4 ... !

If we never hear what he has to say then we don't know what his views are though, you can't just shut out every view that is extreme - we need to hear what others think.

I didn't see it, but read a bit of the transcript and it didn't seem to be that extreme

Exactly, you don't have to agree with the f*ckwits views but it's still an alternative speech.

Surely seeing as Channel 4is a Public Service Broadcaster I don't see why people are so up in arms about it, it's not like anyone forced people to watch it.

Don't forget, on the whole the USA is a country that subscribes unquestioningly to the Christian way of thinking, treats single parents and gay people as second class citizens, and wants to colonize every country that has oil reserves. We've all had enough of that.

Yes, but at least you have the First Amendment in the USA. Mostly.

Either way, even though Ahmedinejad is a demented ****, it was very interesting and quite a thought-provoking move from Channel 4 to choose him to deliver the alternate Christmas message, and I think it was a brave - and a good - one. Remember that the BNP is given unregulated airtime in Party Political Broadcasts (yes, I know it's required by law, but the point is clear - everyone should have a chance to air their views, no matter how despicable they are.)

If this is indeed true, then all that I thought about Channel 4 is gone.

Although, I guess it is good to hear his views, and not peoples opinions on his views. So, in a way, it exactly follows (at least) one of my feelings about Channel 4, the "thought-provoking" aspect of the channel.

So, on one hand it goes against everything I feel about Channel 4, yet is exactly what Channel 4 should be showing, whilst I'm also disagreeing with all said in the speech.

I'm so torn!

The irony of that statement is that Channel 4 once refused to broadcast a party political broadcast by the National Front. (I think that's right Confused ).

As for the topic in hand, I think they were right to do this. If it had been to stir things up and generate publicity then that simply would have been wrong - but I actually think for once Channel 4 considered what could be an alternative to the Queens speech.

I think it is important to be able to hear everybody's point of view, or to at least have a choice to listen. It makes a bold statement about free speech.

Far more thought provoking than anything the Queen has to say, and it raises some interesting points.

My opinion on Iran is basically live and let live - it's not down to us (or more accurately, America) to determine how every country in the world exists, and I'm sure any nuclear programme Iran has is more about defending it from a possible US invasion than going on the attack. And if it stops America invading, I'm all for it.
