Channel 4 and Swearing

An influx of swearing broadcast before the watershed (August 2009)

Channel 4 seem to be risking it lately by broadcasting a lot of swear words before the watershed.

On Sunday BBLB had 3 incidents of swearing of which at least 1 wasn't edited out on +1. In it's defence it was a live show and C4 were swift in apologising for it.

But just now on The Simpsons the word 's**te' was said and not edited out. That was easily preventable and broadcast at a time where a lot of children will be watching.

Now I'm not one to go all Daily Mail on a channel but shouldn't Channel 4 be a lot more careful on what they broadcast before the watershed? Especially on programmes likely to be watched by children.

They got in to trouble a few years ago when they failed to edit out a w*nker, since then they've been hacking episodes to pieces so surprising if they missed one.

I don't know why Ch4 even bother showing The Simpson's considering how much they butcher it.

Maybe it's because it's a big money spinner, it draws the crowds.

Considering though they get away with showing it at 7/8pm on a Sunday night in the States, you wouldn't think it would need editing for the UK.

I've never got into it so wouldn't know, but was it this butchered when it aired on BBC2 - or indeed Sky One?

Anyone know how long C4 have the rights to The Simpsons for? Considering when they were being bid for figure around £1m an episode were being touted, it's a pretty poor deal considering how long the delay after broadcasts on Sky - much longer than any other show which premieres on pay-TV then airs FTA.

What is the latest series C4 showed, and what series are Sky on?

They're not good at editing Friends either, worst butchered one there was the episode with Emma's Birthday Penis cake thing, terrible. There was an episode on E4 today that had the word Gonad removed, I could go on, but some of them are silly.

Five cut the word 't*sser' from Home and Away, but left the expression 'pi*sed my pants' in - personally, I would say the second expression is most likely to have parents reach for the remote when young children were present!

Interestingly, the word 'w*nker' was used in the 70s/80s in Worzel Gummidge!
