Channel 4 Simpsons ident

Apologies if this has already been noticed, and it wasn't the debut, but...

Channel 4 has a new, specially created Simpsons ident. It starts as a normal Simpsons sketch.

Homer tosses some beer in the air. It gets caught up in the power cables. He clambers up on a tree to get it, and electrocutes himself every time he touches the beer.

The camera then zooms out to show an overhead map of Springfield. Every so often you hear a scream, and a selected number of houses light up, spelling out a 4.

Nicely done, and presumably costing them a bit of money to get it produced.

Months late.

Sorry. Did seem unlikely it would be debuting at 4pm on a Sunday, but I didn't a search and couldn't find it.

Tv ark has a clip, going into Big bother

idents.tv has had a clip of it since July 07.

It was done around the time of The Simpsons movie.

It's odd because you barely see it, and when you do see it it's not infront of the simpsons

You barely see it because it is not very good and doesn't follow the same form as all of the other idents. I expect Channel 4 were disappointed with what they got in the end, but they could hardly complain about it.

Ben's right it is rubbish, but having said that the Trafalgar Square pigeon ident isn't like your usual Channel 4 ident with it being an optical illusion.

What is most disappointing is that it could easily be adapted to feature any other station logo.

Expect to see it mostly used in front of HD programmes, it's one of the 3 HD idents Channel 4 currently has, along with Tokyo and the new Rollercoaster one.
