As well as Countdown the only other original program still on air on C4 is Brookside, well until the 4th November that is.

It seems Channel 4 are loosing track of their roots. I believe it was Phil Redmond who pointed out that it seems 4 only care now about reality tv and american sitcoms. Everything else is moved about out of the way

You have to agree with Mr Redmond in a way, as all they do care about is Reality, USA Sitcoms and Home shows, now what they offer is good but for Channel 4 there is too much of it. Whatever happened to the excellent Channel 4 of the 1980's and 1990's? The channel with risky edgy programming, something which was 'alternative' to ITV. I have to agree with Brekkie Boy too, it has p*ssed me off what has replaced Countdown, a couple of shows about houses, which also dominate Prime Time and is just plain stupid IMO. The channel has lost of all of it's original roots to be honest, axing Right To Reply was a bad mistake for a start, you could think fair enough for Brookie, but putting it on at 11.05pm on a Tuesday night is rather stupid, even when it starts getting good again. Really half of the programmes and their time slots should have been left untouched such as...

Right To Reply; went from Saturday at 6.30pm to Friday at 7.30pm, against Corrie
Brookside; was in the mid 1990's Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday at 8.30pm, by 2001 it was all over the place.
Fifteen To One; was 4.30pm when Countdown was off air, then 4.00pm, then 3.45pm now 2.45pm.

The only thing they haven't moved is Channel Four News and I am suprised they haven't moved that!

Yeah, same story with Countdown as well, as I said on the previous page. According to this page, it apparently once went out at 7pm on a Saturday! Wasn't until 1985 that it settled down at 4:30, which is where it sat for the next 16yrs when it moved to 4:15 and the new format and now it's on at 3:15.

Countdown's only contracted to July 2004 apparently - be a shame to see it go.

I'm sure ITV, Channel 4 and five would drop all news bulletins given half the chance and ITV would replace it with extra Corrie no doubt Rolling Eyes

The only possible jusficiation I can think off is that C4 have commissioned a new daytime drama series from Mersey TV.

The new programme will be interactive and set in a court room, focusing on a different case each week.

C4 would probably rather this went out at 4.30pm each day than 3.15pm.

OH MY GOD! Shocked Shocked Shocked

The opening titles to Richard and Judy are shocking....how can they let that go out?

They are very wierd, perhaps if they were better produced and had more post production than just the logo added it may work! I'd prefer a new version of the old titles, i.e. have them walking, though I never understood those titles, but I understand these even less.

Perhaps they should go for this morning type titles featuring the guests and them doing stuff.

Speaking of this morning I notice that they've mixed tge old titles (featuring the guests from the 2001-2002 series) with the summer ones (featuring fern & phillip mainly and their different outfits, and many of them laughing), which had made it look better as the 2002-2003 titles had all the celebs laughing but the phillip one that they added didnt was him looking serious which isnt mainly what he does, he laughs more than being serious.

Well, it appears it's a matter for the commons according to Teletext.

A Kent Labour MP has presented a conundrum to Channel 4 by calling for quiz programme Countdown to be moved back to its original time slot.

Jonathan Shaw, MP for Chatham and Aylesford, claimed the show lost more than half its viewers since moving from its 4.15pm slot to 3.15pm last week.

He has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons criticising Channel 4's "serious error".

Channel 4 has defended its decision to move its flagship quiz show Countdown from its traditional daytime slot.

In a statement on its viewer inquiries line, it described the move from 4.15pm to 3.15pm as "the perfect way to kick off an afternoon's viewing."

It added: "We recognise the move will interrupt well-established routines and viewing habits. However, after 21 years we feel it is time for a change."

It's certainly not a matter for politicians!!! They caused the fiasco that led to a watered down News at Ten being reinstated rather than the regular Nightly News at 11. And in the unlikely event they do threaten action, C4 should show them who's boss and axe it to spite them!

Its nothing new, somebody, I forget who, raised a motion for debate in the same house when Channel 5 screened Naked Jungle. So for somebody to raise a motion about the relocation of Countdown isn't on the same scale but it certainly isn't new to bring TV matters in the House of Commons.

Yes, wasn't a Question raised to the Prime Minister regarding the freeing of "The Weatherfield One", Deirdrie Rachid from prison ? Laughing

Oh yes Laughing Surprised they didn't drag the "Free Little Mo" thing into the house as well. Or maybe they did and I missed it. Oh well.

Well the average ratings for Countdown at 4.15pm were 1.6 Million, now they have gone down to 800,000 as a consequence of being on at 3.15pm. And according to Channel 4, they said that this is the sort of ratings they'd expect for 3.15pm. (Source BBC News Online )

And frankly who here has actually watches it at 3.15pm? I haven't, I'm still in College at that time for 4 days a week.

But let's hope the MP's get their way. As they seem to be getting alot of support, we just need Tony.

I wonder how it does compared to Tiny Planets and Engie Benjy on the other side!

I have a feeling this entire issue of the moving of Countdown is going to run for a bit and then the Education Secretary will get involved...

You'd think, wouldn't you, that since Channel 4 is state owned, they'd listen to their owners (ie, the government) a bit more would you not?
