The husband keeps mentioning something about a scary face that appeared between the trailers and the ads on Channel 4 back in the olden days and upset kids and his mother.

Anyone got any idea what he's talking?

Was it the coffee-ring logo era breakflash by any chance?

It was around the time they used this break bumper: http://thetvroom.com/old/images-ch4/images-1982/zz-93-bb.jpg

Their theme one season was made up of people in diffrent period dress, and the breakbumper featured a composite image of all the characters. This flashed up very subtley behind the break bumper animation.

There were a few people who were a bit freaked my it, some thinking it was a ghost!

he seems to recognise that, he said it wasn't a real woman and that it was creepy.

When was this exactly? Are there any pictures of it? I have a feeling it may have been *just* before my time.

Found it on a tape of Channel 4 stuff from March 1995 last year, and never knew what it was about!

I can't quite tell from the image (although the time is about right) but is the image of the woman which changes every frame and points at you?

If so it was the subject of complaints to the ITC which led to C4 quickly withdrawing it and replacing it with a simple animation which lasted until the circles came in.

That's the one, it wasn't a woman at all, it was a compsite image of the characters who were appearing in their presentation package at the time.

Think she did point, but IIRC it wasn't pulled due to complaints,it was only meant to be used for a limited time

Looks very scary now. I remember seeing at the time but wasn't scared of it then, I was 18 then.

Maybe it's pulling was planned anyway, but I do distinctly remember a complaint to the ITC being documented somewhere to which C4's response was the the break bumper was supposed to be artistic and wasn't mean to scare anybody.
