Errm well according to idents.tv, it was created by Gracie Films, aka they produce The Simpsons:

A bit of a let down really, its a shame that Gracie Films don't really get the idea behind the Channel 4 idents, unless of course that bit of animation ends up being used for other things, wouldn't be hard to stick another logo at the end would it.

I thought the idents channel 4 adapted for the launch of the Simpsons were pretty good - and they just snipped the animation from the programme itself.

I think it's really good. The concept with the other idents in the set is a bit lost, but otherwise, I think it's very good.

Of course this isn't the first ident they've had which has incorporated a cartoon they air. 1999 i think they started using 2 versions of a South Park special ident with the sweeping bars. One killing Kenny by slicing his head off and the other with Chef grabbing one of the bars and giving it some loving.
At least those were better as they incorporated the current style of the idents. These don't really match with anything at all.

There was also a third one where all of the lines crash into Cartman Very Happy

it really isn't very good is it. For a start the logo is in one single form, its meant to be that the blocks form the logo in 3D.

What could have been achieved is a shot with the power lines leading the nuclear plant flickering and then it swining round to reveal the logo.

Due to the fact that they've tried to emulate the side logo for stills I suspect they weren't briefed properly.

Don't think it's Channel 4 specific, too much about it says you could slap any logo at the end and it'd look alright.

There is something awkward about the Simpsons ident. It's got quite a good form-up, but the point where the 4 appears is quite iffy. It isn't a bad ident, but it's missing something important that I can't put my finger on.

What if Homer had grabbed hold of the power line, which then brought down a series of buildings tumbling down in succession which for a few seconds formed the '4'?

I quite like the new Simpsons Ident - very catching and cleverly done!

Very very good ident.

Noticed T4 have an orange version of the new "Next" caption thing - though with a dodgy logo on it which is basically the T4 logo on a white rectangle - which it's too big for!

Yes the form up if good it is that end bit that doesn't look right, the top of the buildings looks a bit too flat from up above & what is causing the shadow 4 exactly?

Rather marvellously, Channel 4's HQ is going to get a giant logo just like in the adverts (i.e. it's all in bits and you have to look at it from a particular angle to see the logo). Also it's going to be really big: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/broadcastnowArticle.aspx?intStoryID=170784

EDIT: Actually, that was supposed to be embargoed until later today, and Broadcastnow have been very naughty indeed in breaking the story so early.
