Channel 4 picture oddity.

'Flash and bang' as we used to say in the biz. (December 2016)

Has anyone else noticed the flash of white/black across the entire width of the screen and about 20 active lines in height at the bottom of the screen when C4 cut away from the last commercial in the break to the next piece of content?

It's on our Freesat feed, and previous to that it was on our Freeview feed from Hannington. It's been doing it for years and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it. Our Freesat PVR does not allow me to 'jog' so I can't see it or describe it any better I'm afraid.

Does it come before or after any sponsorship? And is it every time?

Just checked a 4HD recording on my box, nothing...

Straight after the last comm in the break sequence - does not matter what comes next. Does it happen every time? I'm not a big watcher of C4 so can't tell, last night it was in the break leading into C4 News. It definitely seems to 'have' to include a commercial, and only after the last commercial - not in between them, or before them. If you're looking, look at the bottom of the screen. - about an inch high on a 32" telly. Edit: and we are watching on channel 104 so SD.

Not seen it on C4 HD from Hannington, but what I have noticed in the past is my AV Amp (thinking) its lost the digital audio feed going in and out of breaks. I assume it was a momentary gap in the AES/EBU stream when Red Bee's router cut in and out of the macro-region feed and that rippled through the emission coding, and into my system ! Not seen that for a while, but the video problem could be similar. As a special treat I'll watch C4 SD Hannington tonight, and report back. (The fault
should be present on all 'Meridian', 'HTV West', 'Westcountry','Anglia' and 'Channel' regional transmitters, and on Freesat postcodes in those regions )

I watched the breaks between 17:00 and 18:00hrs, caught the fault coming out of the break at 17:15

Many thanks for spending the time on this - was it after the very last comm? Were you able to 'still frame' it somehow and see what it is/was? Did it look, to you, as I sort of attempted to describe?

I wonder how one might report this sort of thing to channel 4?

It was indeed between the last comm, and a 'random logo blocks' sting. In other words, switching from the macro regional feed, back to national output. Exactly as you describe, though I couldn't grab it on freeze frame. I'll have a word with someone I know about it........ Cool

Thanks, I'm sure you'll keep us informed. As I said in my first post, it's been doing it for years.

We have HD! I can't be bothered to potter up and down on the remote. Not that I'm a luddite or anything, but I was quite happy with 625 lines PAL !
