1982 ident aired before GBBO. Strange given its birthday was yesterday, but is because it’s 80’s week on GBBO.

I’d say it’s more because it’s 80’s week on Bake Off tonight.

Was just about to comment on that myself. I wonder if it's due to it being 80s week on Bake Off.

A nod to 80s week.

But nice this themed week coincided with Channel 4's anniversary.

Now off to watch 'Brookside in lockdown'...

The announcer's script was a nice nod to Paul Coia's opening announcement too.

Massive logo though. Being on a black background it's an easy one to resize

But I think that it stems from when the original idents were reframed for 16:9, as in some of the animations, the blocks fall outside of the 4:3 area. Consequently the logo is shown much larger than originally intended so as not to have empty side bars.

Yeah, the final logo may look fine with the sidebars as the black background would make them invisible - but the same can't be said for the animations.

Couldn't they make a widescreen recreation for things like this?

Or just pick the ident from the original set that animates within the 4:3 frame.

But that wasn't the ident they launched with Smile
