Should really read "Media in new "blowing things out of proportion" row"
As someone who watched the show last night, there was nothing wrong in what was broadcast. She made her views clear (freedom of speech anyone?) - and her views were challenged by the other contestants (something the BB celebs didn't do!). Viewers were in no doubt who was in the wrong!
I'm fed up of so called intellectuals believing us mere viewers are too thick to form our own opinion about what is right and what is wrong!
And I'm far more concerned with the way the likes of Sky News have acted in the last 7 days than anything C4 has done!
I do agree with him on this occasion though. I think it's just another case of mass hysteria. Hardly anybody would have blinked an eyelid if this past week hadn't happened with BB. It's just people going "Ooh, look, she's racist. Shall we complain again?".
Keith Vaz, Minister for making a mountain out of a molehill, has jumped on this bandwagon too, raising it again in parliament, saying C4 should have made it clear such "racist language" is unacceptable!
If he actually watched the programme he'd no that there was absolutely no racist "language" used even when racist views were expressed!
There wasn't even this much fuss last year with the BNP documentary - and that went to court and the accused were acquitted! (wrongly IMO, but that's not the point!)
However, if everytime controversial views such as this people who should no better say such views should never be aired, there is a real danger of parties such as the BNP benefitting from the situation!
The hypocracy of it all is what is really sickening me - today in The Sun a big column on the whole Big Brother thing - then next to it a cartoon taking the piss out of muslim women!

Totally agree with you. I think it would have been so much worse if Channel 4 had edited these sorts of comemnts out of their broadcasts.
At the end of the day, there is racism (and there will always be racism) in all sections of society - be it black, white, asian etc. The public is far more intelligent than the media and politicians ever give us credit for.

Remember there is a difference between freedom of speech and incitement.
I, like many many others, think that the BNP are stupid and poisonous... however what they said in the context of the court case you mention wasn't inciting anything; the jury agreed, which is why they were acquitted. They were exercising freedom of speech, no matter how obnoxious their opinions are (very IMO).
One good thing this whole CBB debacle has done is raising this very debate. What constitutes as racism for instance?
