Reading the new issue of the journal 'Marketing', it announced Channel 4 is introducing a BRAND NEW logo, set of idents and set of programme trails.

"The revamp, produced inhouse by 4Creative, includes a logo, idents and programme trails. These will feature in programme junctions and all on and off air marketing. The logo comprises a series of blocks building into a 3-D image of the figure '4'. Idents feature a floating logo set in various environments, ranging from a highrise estate to a bowling green, to emphasise C4's diversity."
(Colin Bradshaw, Marketing, 08/12/04)

I don't have the capability to put the picture of one of the idents on the forum, but is on the front cover on the journal if you go and look in all good newsagents.

So, it seems that we will be saying goodbye to the current idents when the 'alternative christmas' idents are introduced later this month!

Sounds good! Very Happy Any piccies of this Marketing journal? Scan-ins? Websites? I'm dying to see this...

We've heard this all before - but never ever heard of the "4 Creative" team before.

As for the "new" logo, I'm guessing it's the square, not the 4 that will be ditched.

Well It looks rubbish from the tiny pic I can see on that page. Of course, it'll obviously be better on-screen.

Well, that makes it clear - THE FAMOUS LOGO IS STAYING. It's just being redesigned - the square box is gone!

Not before time I say. I've never been a huge fan of the current set of idents introduced last year (hearbeat, flash lights etc), although the version before that was brilliant.

I think this also means the C4 logo has a good future. If they were going to replace it, now would have been the more sensible time before the analogue signal is switched off to get it estabhlished. And a new logo could have worked if it was well designed logo, not just a text based logo.

From the one tiny picture it's a bit difficult to know how good or otherwise it'll be on screen. However, the fact that the proper blocky 4 logo is remaining is brilliant news.

In these days of so-called branding experts changing things for the sake of change (or, more to the point, to line their pockets), it's great to see that one of the strongest brands on British television isn't being axed.

Very Happy

Well, I for one am immensely relieved to discover that a major UK broadcaster doesn't feel the need to ditch a long-running and successful logo.
