Well, they don't take HM's Chrstmas message, so why should they bother with Christmas idents?

Don't they play it in the evening along with someone flapping their hands in front of it?

Ah, yes, that's a possibility, Inspector.

Can't say I take too much interest in Christmas Day scheduling; usually got better things to do.

I was sure they don't take the 15:00 edition.

On the ident we pass under a sign that says "Perilous Plunge"
Googled it..

I think it makes the channel very distinctive not having Christmas idents. In fact, instead of playing idents at all they could just put a prominent logo in the corner of the screen.

Do you think this reverse psychology might work on C4 then? Laughing

Seems to be the "Jaguar" http://www.rcdb.com/id291.htm.

The coaster lift hill is visible in the centre of this picture Windows Live

Interestingly, the coaster goes under the 4 twice, but on the first time (backwards) several elements are in different places, specifically the "Xcellerator" sign (also another coaster at knotts berry farm according to rcdb). Neither of the coaster signs appear to exist in reality (as they move), so they must have been included as a hint to the actual location.

I'm not sure how I feel on the old Christmas idents/no Christmas ident side. I'd love it if they would, but I see what people mean because the channel tends to be different, but then again it's not as different as it used to be when they did have Christmas idents.

Take a look here at Christmas day 1990. The stunning reworking of the famous ident in white and silver with a fantastic jingle. And what Christmas Day used to be like in a trail, don't really understand the Corrie Birthday Lecture though, what was that, anyone remember?

As I've said before, maybe channel 4 should be different and have a cheesy Christmas ident as others drop theirs, or do an unusual Christmas ident in the vain of old man/sofa, maybe its just me.

Going slightly OT, but Max Headroom is back, but he's advertising Channel 4's Digital channels...

That really was a great ident, the choral reworking of FourScore was similar to a 4-Tel tape of a capella choral music in use at the time (the one with the round of applause in it!)

As others have said, C4 have never been more mainstream yet to not have a Christmas ident now seems more in keeping with how specialist Channel 4 used to be. And very ironic considering they now have a branding scheme which has "Christmas" written all over it, not to mention how the boat was pushed out three weeks ago.

Yes - that's the route. Forget the Christmas card image - for many people Christmas is all about alcohol and lazing about on the sofa. The old man is the perfect anti-Christmas ident, while a few naff decorations and replacing Lynam with the Snowman would make Sofa more than suitable.
