[Mod Edit: The original thread was split to this new one]
On the subject of Channel 4 (and because I can't find another thread on the subject).... was that a new ident earlier? The 4 was formed by various parts of a rollercoaster.

Oh and they used a Christmas sting earlier too
Interesting.
I've never seen a rollercoaster ident, and what do you mean by sting? A break bumper?
Well the rumour in the transmission world is that they aren't the only ones in for it... begins with an A ends in a t.
Would it be a separate playout operation owned (or owned by a consortium led) by the same Australian bank as Red Bee ? If so - then it makes sense to cosite the operations doesn't it?
Interesting - as the company that provides this playout operation has just been appointed (instead of Siemens) by the BBC to provide uplink facilities for the Freesat operation ?
That one ends in an A, not a T I don't think the Arqiva press release is telling the full story - Siemens are still involved in Freesat, they just haven't issued a press release yet.

Yep between the break and the trails the background behind the '4' was a load of baubles (they've used this the last couple of years)
The rollorcoaster one lasts ages and you can't really see the 4 coming then it's very subtle

Ah - but the company that ends in an A has a division that ends in a T doesn't it?
Well...Forget the likes of 'Container' -
this
really looks dead subtle to me; and while I've yet to see it in motion, it definitely sounds like the form-up time (whatever there is of that) doesn't make it any more obvious!
Perhaps a double-edged sword of a symbol; if it's too brief then some people are just going to miss it and think "what the hell...?" but the viewers are then, invited to 'spot the 4', which I guess includes identifying the added pieces of the logo before they align - a bit of a gamble maybe, but I like it. When the '4' is worked nigh on seamlessly into the environment and initially remains quite hidden, those are the most enjoyable IMO.
I think the beauty of these idents is the logo isn't slapped on screen throughout - they treat the viewers with a bit of intelligence and the belief the idents themselves stand out - which of course they do.
Would like to see a few more night ones though - talking of which, is UFO still used at all. Haven't seen it for ages!
Yeah UFO was used the other night, I don't know what was on as I was channel hopping wouldn't surprise me if it was a sci-fi film.
The rollercoaster ident was used before the world music awards the other night. I think the lead-in is too long for such a short appearance by the logo - would have been good if they'd managed to get the logo formed up twice or something. Still good though.
