Sorry if this is old news, but has Channel 4 changed the font on its coming next idents? It looks somehow different.

You're right - it has. Instead of being DIN it now seems to be a more Arial-like font. The trails are still the same, though. I wonder why this has been done?

I'm guessing that the ident's test is being sourced from 124 Facilities which has had to handle such things if there's a fault at Channel 4 and are using a standby font incase it can't be sourced from CH4 HQ.

It seems to be the same font they use for the 4 Breakfast strand in the mornings.

Surely 124 is at Channel 4's HQ (it's named after 124 Horseferry Road)?

I imagine it's only temporary. C4 have varied their fonts and style for ECPs and idents for a day or so on occassions in the past - probably just a mistake!

They certainly look too polished to be from a backup facility. Or at least the backup facility that was used during the Horseferry Road power outage that time - remember the squashed and stretched Powerpoint-like menu text? I wondered why they chose to struggle with the menu captions rather than just leave them off for the day.

The clock cracker says Channel 4 HFR - didn't it change to ECR during the gas leak?

If this different font is coming from a backup facility, why can't they just have the proper font? I've got DIN on my computer. They're welcome to a copy if they ask nicely. Smile
