And Friends as well, while they're at it (August 2008)

Tonight's was brilliantly ruined with the bit where Homer pushes to the front of a queue and gives a speech only for the clerk to say "this is the line for sex offenders" which was cut and the next bit where Moe joins the back of the queue and says "oh jeez there's always a line" kept in but pointlessly so.

Yeah, I noticed that, it's a great line that. There's no need to censor the Simpsons in my opinion.

Channel 4 editing The Simpsons is bad, it is even worse when they don't edit it properly. They will edit out mildly controversial lines but keep in lines like "I had my period today." (The Last Temptation of Krust.) If you are going to do something, at least do it right instead of their current half-arsed attempts. Why don't they make it more discreet and not so obvious?

Another cut on The Simpsons just now, when Marge was picking up Homer from work and she says to Lenny & Carl

"Knock it off you perverts"

Except they cut off the end bit.

Which bearing in mind they've just shown the family killing each other in the opening sequence is hilariously inconsistent.

Not necessarily, cut the extreme stuff out of a Treehouse of Horror episode and you wouldn't have an episode left. How long before they're not shown at all as part of the regular run do you reckon?

Accepted - I just wonder about the logic of censors if a bit of swearing (or not even swearing in some cases) is seen as more corrupting to kids than, for example, all their favourite characters killing each other.

And I'll quickly point out that I don't see any issue with either of these being included in this showing - but out of the two, I would've said the latter was worse.

I see Channel 4 are now airing the new season, the one they aired weeks ago but only showed it for one week.

Friends was butchered on T4 this morning, in the opening scene with Monica and Phoebe sorting out Rachel's baby shower, Phoebe corrects Monica in saying that it was 3 not 4, you get about half a second of Monica swearing and then into the Opening titles, more great editing strikes again.

TOW the Princess Leia fantasy was on E4 the other day, and they always at the end cut out the bit where Ross says I'll get Chandler the bástard....

I mean we joke that it's always on C4/E4, but sometimes you're better off buying the DVDs.

Some of the most ludicrous examples:-

7.The cutting of a laryngectomy (where someone has had their larynx removed and as such breathes through an opening in their throat) scene on ER.
6. Friends, the line - "you are so lazy, why can't you ever go on top" was cut about 3 minutes after the words "hump" and "screw" were spoken.
5. Friends. The words bitch and ******* are cut randomly, and left in on other occasions.
4. ER. Leave the word "s*it" in on two occasions, but edit out words such as bitch.
3. Scrubs. Butchered to death over mildly sensitive issues.
2. E4 music. "You cheap lousy faggot" being cut from fairytale of New York.
JOINT 1. The Simpsons. Sky cutting the phrase "insecticide and buggery" from the episode guest starring Carmen Electra (later a reference is made to her breasts)
JOINT 1. The Simpsons. Cutting the Ganesh scene (fear of upsetting religions? NO!!!)

If you think the Ganesh scene was offensive then here are a few about Christianity that were left in (and rightly so!)

1. Jebus
2. If God didn't want you to bring chicken to church he would have made gluttony a sin.
3. Homer dancing naked in church.
4. Flanders as the devil.
5. Bart selling his soul

An episode on C4 last week (where Homer and Marge are having nookie on the crazy golf course) had the line, "Who cares let's monoxide it" cut - when Mo takes a hoze from his car exhaust to "flush out" what they think is a bear trapped inside the golf course.

Its absolutely nonsensical.

Can one of you call C4 to ask them to explain themselves for me?

I'm very busy, you understand.
