Channel 4 butchering The Simpsons

And Friends as well, while they're at it (August 2008)

Friends will generally be ripped apart to make it suitable to be shown at 8am, 4pm, 6pm ... in fact whenever suits C4/E4, but is completely unsuitable for a programme that is given a 12 or 15 certificate for DVD release.

Examples of this are when Monica, Chandler and Rachel are discussing how properly to please a woman - a five minute scene reduced to about thirty seconds. In TOW The Cake, lines just have individual words sliced out. For example, Joey exclaiming "What the hell's the matter with me it looked tastier as a penis" had the last word cut out, but the roar of laughter afterwards left in.

If programmes are going to be butchered to the poin that they no longer make sense, just so they are suitable to be broadcast in an earlier time slot, the answer is to leave them alone and broadcast them later.

Obviously that would mean E4 could only broadcast 3 hours a day, but sobeit.

Interesting to note that C4/E4 rarely show TOW Free Porn, everytime it's been on it's only been shown after 9pm, I think that was the only DVD that was given a 15 by the BBFC.

Its educational. As Krusty says, "What don't kids learn - don't trust mice... cats are made out of glass..."

Maybe they should replace it with the "Mars and Mattel Quick Energy Choccobot Hour".

That's a good cartoon.

The P word is also edited out when Rachel first discovers what the cake is. In the edited version it's "Oh my god, they put my babies face on a" cut to audience laughing. Pheobe's outburst of the word B*astard is also covered with laughter at the end of that episode.

The butchering of episodes of The Simpsons/Friends/Scrubs has really ruined them. As per the OP example of Apu's wedding, an hilarious bit because it shows Homer's ignorance & stupidity yet they cut it out. It totally ruined the episode for me (even though I've seen it half a dozen times) and put me off wathcing the remaining few minutes.

I believe the word "wankers" was left in by mistake on an episode & 23¼ peopel complained I presume they decided to edit the hell out of everything else.

Scrubs is another example, where the line "Hey Slut" was edited out, surely that's a clue that scrubs shouldn't be on at 2pm Rolling Eyes

It doesn't stop them from swearing on daytime TV (I'm thinking back to an episode of Come Dine With Me, whereby a contestant referring to the following evening said "I think it's going to be sh** (uncensored)". I heard a worse one more recently also, though I can't remember what it was (I can remember that I was slightly stunned that they didn't bleep it at such a time). The language doesn't bother me, but it seems ridiculous that these are broadcast while the seemingly tame is editted out of the Simpsons (e.g. "It's a pornography store, I was buying pornography")

Not often you'll see a horizontal wipe these days. Family Guy on 3 just had one. To compensate for the fact that Peter made a joke about saying something funny before the commercial break and ... there not being one I suppose!
