Shame there wasn't a clock into Channel 4 News tonight - though it did make an appearance around 19.35 with a quick reminiscence of the past 25 years.

"That's Channel 4 News. Good evening."

Yeah, that's true, but would C4, let's not forget a company trying to make money, want to promote a rival?

But if ITV bought advertising airtime on C4, as C4 themselves have done on ITV, that would be perfectly acceptable and no different than Sky advertising on ITV.

Now showing - a programme menu identical in style to that shown on the first night with FourScore playing as background.

That's classic - if the Italians score that poorly for World Cup champs, wonder what that says about us?! Laughing

The same for us - South West viewers (as usual) had to wait until June 1984 for C4, although just a few miles up the road those served by a neighbouring transmitter could get it from the off. There was some compensation in that a few North Devon viewers could receive a low-power S4C signal, but that all depended on where exactly you lived.

Which South West region TV transmitter was your aerial aimed at. To the best of my knowledge, Caradon Hill and Stockland Hill were the only two transmitters in the TSW region to broadcast Channel 4 from day one.
