9. Max Headroom, who made his debut in 1985, was the first computer-generated TV host.

We appear to have found the last living person who still thinks Max was really computer-generated!

Happy Birthday C4 - and thanks for the birthday treat. I hope someones capping them.

And nice to see you've got the present you want - Richard and Judy quitting!

P.S. One minor moan, but the promos could be a bit better rather than just fading the logo/text on.

Who would think that after 5 and a half years, the Big Breakfast microsite is still on the Channel 4 website!

Cock up on News at Noon, the news titles failed to play, resulting in a black screen and a fade out of the music to the presenter.

The titles played - there was music, it looked like the '4' shaped wipe into them went wrong

SO pleased with them. Channels don't ever make an effort anymore! This is all great. They've brought all idents back (zoomed to make them widescreen) for the day.

They've even changed the clock to Gill Sans to fit the theme this morning. Brilliant!

Happy Birthday Channel 4!

Yes great to see these all back again. Unfortunately though they haven't gone far enough in some areas - that Noughties scourge, the ECP is still there, albeit in 1982 livery - could this not have been suspended for one day? Likewise the signposts for channel4.com/learning - again, why not a slide AFTER the programme?

Seeing proper programme slides into the breaks this morning for the US series makes us realise how bland things are now. What sells a programme better - a graphic featuring an image from the programme in question, or a one-size-fits all animated background with just the title of the said show? Should be no contest really.

After all this, how will C4 possibly be able to defend the lack of Christmas idents next month?

No ITV Schools ident though, which is a shame.

That's because ITV Schools was produced by ITV (namely Central), at the time.

Also conspicuously absent - from the TV schedules or the C4 anniversary website - is the ETP1 test card. So it falls to me to fill the gap:

That's what I meant, thanks for clearing it up Inspector.

Some people are never happy - I quite like the way they've changed the ECP actually. And as for Christmas - will you be happy then if they just crop a 25 year old version?

Interesting they're using captures from the idents (in 3D) for the break bumpers rather than the 2D version they used to use.

Channel 4 could do a killer Christmas ident in the current theme but for three years running have chosen not to do so. Why not? Nothing more depressing really seeing The Snowman or The Alternative Christmas Message being introduced by the usual street markets, chav tower blocks etc.

Interesting slide there - are these as seen in 1982, or are C4 just making them up?
