Slightly related -- after the late local news last night, there was a promo for a C4 programme [Gordon Ramsey] during the ads on HTV -- never seen that before.

I have...Channel 4 has done cross-promotion in the form of adverts on both ITV and on networks such as Sky and UKTV. It's not a promo as much as an advert.

I think the last time it was used was for either Ugly Betty or for Lost.

Plus the fact that, excluding the original coloured blocks logo, most of the idents have dated well. IMO.

I wouldn't even say the blocks logo has dated to be honest. In many ways it's quite timeless really.

It be interesting to know though what the intention was for these idents:

They aired for about a week in Autumn 1998 and had an accompanying break bumper and (I think) general ident too - but the idents were quickly dropped and remade into versions with just a 4 in a circle in the middle. The break bumper was dropped a bit later and the 4 circles returned, both in the break bumper and the idents.

In the days before TV Forum at the time it appeared C4 had relaunched - but I never understood why they were dropped so quickly. Anyone have any info?

Well yes I have seen them on network ITV and of course I remember the cross-promotion junctions back from watching Thames, but wasn't aware C4 crosspromoted on HTV [ITV Wales, if you will] ?

I darseay if digital viewership in Wales is 80% plus, the C4/S4C issue is inconsequential.

Except for S4C...

Overall, S4C's share of all viewers at all times of day has fallen over the past 12 years from 9.3% to 3.6% - and in peak hours from 6.2% to 3.4%.

As for C4 promos on other channels. Five have done this as well.. though they are not allowed to say when it is on, so just say "Soon"

Oh my God, this was my favourite set of idents ever! I thought they had been lost in the sands of time! These were celebrity idents done right.

Shame they were dropped so quickly, the "coffee-stain" ones got old really quickly.

I disagree. They were vile, and not a patch on the flying blocks - but then again, when the logo's rendered in 2D it simply doesn't look as good as it does in 3D.

I like those a lot. Sure, not as good as the current ones, but brilliant all the same IMO.

I wasn't comparing them to any other set of idents, I just said those were my favourite. Rolling Eyes

I think that the flying blocks idents are just as good, though, so I'd say it's a tie between the aforementioned ones and the current ones.

I watched it from about 20mins left on the clock.

I LOVED that gameshow and was gutted when Challenge took it off.

The radio communications were extremely poor - live from Indonesia!

Caught a bit of it, looked very diffrent to what it was when it was in its classic era.

Odd that one of the clues was in a place that they couldn't land - not good for the first episode where they're trying to establish the format.

Makes you realise how things have moved on over the last 20 years and how diffrent Treasure Hunt would be today.

No need for a second helicopter to handle the comms - a sat phone connection would do the same thing in beter quality, no need for the studio to move a helicopter symbol over a map either - GPS would handle that
