A. F. A. I .K., S4C is going to remain, with just the Welsh language programmes. All of the English programmes will stay on Channel Four. The English–Welsh S4C will disappear with analogue switch-over.
P. S.: In case you're wondering, I've not had Internet since February, so that is why I havn't been at this website for a while. Hello again. Missed you all*. This seems like an awful first message. Sorry.
*well, most of you anyway .

How come England etc have never had the option on SKY to watch the analogue S4C schedule rather than the all Welsh one on there?
Because the channel is S4C - i.e. Sianel Pedwar Cymru - Channel 4 Wales... which means that English viewers get Channel 4... not sure what your logic is here. Of course if you DO want to watch DoND or Simpsons episodes days later than everyone else please be our guest
I don't personally think there's a "risk" attached to S4C being Cymraeg yn unig post DSO, as it will still receive its £100million a year from the government for being a PSB, as well as its advertising revenue.
And there's no reason to believe that S4C won't at some point reintroduce Rhaglenni Saesneg now that 2W is going the way of the dinosaurs. Wales-produced English language programming could be an attractive option come DSO.

I think that might be a route it might have to take, though I hope not.
I do think though with the additional options Digital TV adds that on things like their live rugby coverage adding an English alternative commentary could bring in viewers - though there could be rights issues I suppose?

It will be a huge risk, if it was entirely commerically funded then it would collapse very quickly. They're just very lucky they recieve alot of money from the Welsh Assmebly to keep it's originality which they don't seem to píss about with, plus don't forget a News service and a daily soap that come for next to nothing from the BBC.
I suppose what's kept the Analogue service going is the Channel 4 programmes which I'm sure alot of the English speaking Welsh population do watch, but simply as they can recieve Channel 4 UK now they probably don't want to watch S4/C if they can't understand the language.
I think going down the Welsh produced English programmes might be one of the solutions for the channel. What's their policy on Subtitling at the moment? Does alot of the Welsh content have English Subtitles available, as that I suppose to an extent gets some people interested in the service.

Yeah, S4C will be solely a welsh language channel post switch-over - which could be a huge risk, but with the event of digital there was no excuse for viewers in Wales not to have C4.

can I ask what ch4 programmes are shown on S4C?

I think almost every Welsh programme has had English subtitles for as long as I can remember. Certainly in the past they were more likely to have English subtitles than Welsh.
C4 has been one of the main selling points of digital in Wales which has resulted in a higher take up of digital than elsewhere in the UK, meaning there are probably only around 10% of viewers now who rely on the old S4C analogue service as their sole source for C4 programming.
Most programming is shown at some point - even if it's a month later at 2am in the morning. The main exceptions are the evening edition of C4 News, while they only show Hollyoaks on a Sunday. T4 itself isn't shown either, but the programmes are, while occassionally they opt out of Channel 4 Racing for other sport, particularly the Six Nations.
