A new promo is airing for a More 4 season celebrating 25 years of Channel 4. Here are some captures plus the trailer.(It's good to see so many memories of the past quarter century, but sadly no 'Isaura, the Slave Girl'*...)

Great promo. I suppose my earliest memory of Channel 4 aside from Countdown would be Oprah and the awful Channel Four Daily that used to be on before The Big Breakfast started in 1992.

It's a shame they're unlikely to show the first episode of Countdown again... since it would destroy the myth they've been peddling for years that Carol Vorderman was the first woman on Channel 4.

Shouldn't C4 at 25 be airing on C4 proper?

And I bet there's no sign of ETP1 in that promo...

Quote:
This November, Channel 4 Television reaches 25. Told by the people who have shaped Channel 4's identity over the years, including Jon Snow, Michael Grade, Alan Bleasdale, Nick Broomfield and Jamie Oliver, Channel 4 at 25 (working title) is a witty, fast-paced, and at times unorthodox two-hour journey through one of the most exciting periods of British broadcasting and contemporary history.

An intelligent and occasionally irreverent look at the highs, and lows, of the channel's 25-year output, Channel 4 at 25 explores how the fourth button on the remote control altered the broadcasting landscape beyond recognition. Born under Thatcherism and having outlived Blairism, the film examines how Channel 4 has reflected and, on occasions, helped to shape the cultural, social and political landscape of our times.

From the first, and only, prime-time sitcom with an all black cast in Desmond's, to the first pre-watershed lesbian kiss in Brookside, the film shows how the channel has broken boundaries and challenged social taboos. Unlike traditional anniversary programmes, Channel 4 at 25 is a quietly celebratory, but not uncritical look at the channel's defining moments, tackling head on the controversy that it has courted, or inadvertently created.

More4 will also screen vintage shows including A Very British Coup, classic Cutting Edge, The Comic Strip, early Rory Bremner, Kabbadi and Eurotrash.

At the time this was announced it was said that they weren't going to celebrate it at all and didn't want to turn the anniversary into cheese-fest as ITV did with their 50th birthday a couple of years ago.

A great promo - the first second or so of the music doesn't give away the familiar tune! Hopefully they'll turn it into an ident. And I'm looking forward to the programme too, it sounds like they're going to be very honest with everything that has happened.

Nice to see the coloured 4 has been getting a work out over the past few years off air - it's certainly looking a lot leaner than its earlier self Wink

There were 3 of them wasn't there?
Carol, the aft mentioned Cathy and Beverley Isherwood. Bev and Cathy took it in turns to do the letters before Carol was given the lot to do.
