I'm still confused by how they're doing a Big Fat Quiz of the 80s when they already did one last year.

They've already done 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown but that hasn't stopped them doing umpteen more.

Seem to be some encoder problems, or something, during Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (C4 HD, Freesat). A number of scene/shot changes have had briefly corrupted frames on either side, sometimes with ghosting of the next/previous shot on them, almost like a keyframe was missing and breaking the B-frames on either side.

In case anyone hasn't seen this by now, E4's spoof adverts keep raising the weird factor.

I have just seen countdown for the first time in a while, and I have to say there have speeded it up and the game is pretty slick and fast pacing.

Why it needs a 50min slot when the running time is now 42mins I never know.

Adverts.

Nick Hewer has improved considerably to be fair - still not the right man for the job, but at the moment it wouldn't be in the shows interests to rock the boat again and replace him.

The first HD series of the simpsons has now started to be broadcast. Is this S21?

This is why I think Countdown deserves to stay on air. The format is still as efficient and watchable as ever, even with Nick Hewer in charge of it. That, and advertisers apparently still want it as they've cut the running time to accommodate more ads. I can't see Deal or No Deal being recommissioned for 2015 but I think C4 would be mad to lose Countdown.

Mid season 20. I think these have been aired on C4 before, around this time last year.

So the gap has been reduced then, it used to be 6 years, so where is it now?
