There is no live DOG on Million Pound Drop Live this evening. At least not on the first part anyway, I checked Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD.

It won't be a problem soon anyway. I understand the next series will all be recorded anyway which will take away one of the things that makes the programme interesting. Shame. I doubt it will last much longer after that. The only recorded episode up until now was the Channel 4 mash-up one where Davina McCall played the game with her father.

It's only being pre-recorded for the Olympic Special series coming up isn't it? I think I read somewhere it will be live again for the next main series.

Are you sure it won't be recorded just because of the Olympics? The studio is very near to the Olympic Park/stadium

They can still have an online play along on a recorded programme of course. The fact that they're working on smartphone apps would suggest that they are expecting it to go on for a while

There are some episodes being recorded at 12:00 and 15:00 which feature Jedward and friends. I don't know if these are considered Olympic specials or not.

I'm sure the brand will go on for sometime, even if the programme itself doesn't. There is still plenty of Bullseye, Catchphrase and Blockbusters merchandise being released long after the programmes have gone off the air.

If it's not live, it's not been recorded long ago as there was reference to Andy Murray winning at Wimbledon today.

Surely it has to be live for Davina to make references to the online game? Confused

Maybe they will keep the live graphics with tweets and game updates.

Anyway, I have a feeling we will be inundated with play-along apps by the end of the year, so it is going to start getting boring quickly. Maybe they will just drop it or at least mention it less. I mean, it's hardly Avago is it?

Yes, but other than that there would be no difference.

To be frank who really cares that 'hairdressers are doing well tonight' or the other weird snippets from the online game

You do know you were Avago's only viewer, don't you?

Why do you feel that there'll be a lot of them coming up? Broadcasters have been trying to do live play along for years now to varying degrees of success, they're not exactly new.

Not quite, I used to watch and play it too! Their on-screen play-along was very well done.... although unusually you didn't actually have to do anything.

The other good playalong was Banzai which launched on the first day of E4, I remember how impressed I was with that.... I've not seen anything similar since

God Banzai was a fantastically funny show. The play along red button "bet at home" fun just made it even funnier by legitimising the absurdity of the whole thing.

Didn't Paramount use Channel 4 style presentation in front of Channel 4 programmes at one point? I seem to remember them using the Channel 4 logo anyway.

Paramount used to parody the C4 presentation with Phill Jupitus, I think at one point with him in the voice-over booth naked.

I seem to remember another had a C4 announcer announcing Brookside, then Phill nipping in to announce whatever was next on Paramount.
(It was an excellent piss-take - I think Paramount made plenty of their own filler content around that era, with the likes of Dom Joly, Matt Lucas, and Steve Furst as Lenny Beige)
