No reason for DOGs to be on the ads though (again in the US they fade in and out with each part of the programme, and do on many UK channels too). As for graphics within programmes - they'd be designed to work with the DOG, although in the US/Aus in the rare occasion where they do end up bottom right as the DOG is virtually clear it's hardly a problem.
Looks like T4 have switched to a 24 hour clock, but it doesn't fit in the box properly. What have they done in the past when they have been on at 10,11 or 12? Made a bigger box?
Great news it'll reach it's 30th birthday. The show is definitely better now than under either Des, but was worried the ratings might not be cutting it as every time they slumped the papers would jump on it - but it seems Countdown's audience isn't perhaps as loyal as some might think and it can fluctuate considerably over the year.
This is an advertisement break...

This is one of the breaks from Channel 4's Comedy Gala. It's good to see them doing something different again. Pity it wasn't that funny. It's kind of like Jasper Carrot used to do as part of his BBC show.
The Americans (unusually) have the right idea about DOGs, they stick them bottom left or right of the picture
I'm in the USA right now and the DOGs over here are even worse!!
On most of the channels I've seen so far, they have the DOG at the bottom and then a load of other rubbish at the top of it like "all new insert programme name here 5/6c" in big capital letters bigger than the DOG it's self.

why not have no dogs what so ever, I know what channel I'm on, if I want to know whats on next I'll look at the EPG myself, if I want to know the time I'll look at the clock on my dvd player
because really what I want to do is just watch the bloody programme I'm watching at this moment in time, these dogs and graphics are getting as intrusive as popups on the internet. Do they think because they stick up a great big X-FACTOR dog during Corry we are all going to brainlessly sit and watch X-factor because the big sign on the telly told us to

BLUE PETER
I now expect you all to watch Blue Peter
This is something that has been discussed here and in other places at length for years.
The reason that logos and in programme pointers and credit squeezes exist despite there being EPGs is because they are passive... unlike an EPG which needs an active response from the viewer.
You may know what channel you're watching but there are many, possibly the majority of viewers of multichannel who won't. They graze from channel to channel and the broadcasters want to make sure they know what is on next because there's no guarantee that the viewer will stay with the channel or even look at what's on next
