Apparently, after 5 years, More4 are dropping their one and only highlight - The Daily Show. From January they'll only be airing the weekly global edition at 11pm. Presumably so they can air more Come Dine With Me.
A show revolving entirely around US politics is never going to be a huge ratings hit but still, It's a shame.
Aw, WHAT?! That was the only thing I actually bothered to watch on More4. You can't even watch it on Comedy Central's site due to being outside the US. Not impressed.
I wish Comedy Central UK would show it. Then we'd get it in HD, too.
I wished it was repeated later at night. If it wasn't at 8:30pm it would probably do better to be honest. Perhaps the 11pm scheduling is an experiment.
I'm surprised it's lasted so long, especially in the 8.30pm slot - considering it's ratings were usually only in the tens of thousands and as lazy as it is, sticking Come Dine with Me in the slot could easily get 10 times that - and subsequently give More4 a bigger lead in to the 9pm slot (which is probably a Come Dine with Me repeat anyway!).
I do wish More4 would sort itself out though - it's become too reliant on the usual repeats and doesn't push it's own content enough, or get used in the way it should by C4 to repeat appropriate content from the main channel. Both The Pillars of the Earth and Any Human Heart should have got a weekly repeat slot on More4 considering their unfavourable slots on C4 - whilst the True Stories strand just gets lost in it's Tuesday night slot and it's ridiculous that More4 don't give the documentaries another airing later in the week too, as they used too with their Monday night events when they launched. And as inevitable as it might have been, the removal of The Daily Show arguably removes the last remaining bit of "Adult Entertainment" from the schedules.
I do however feel it would have been better to have it air at 11pm every night - 8.30pm was a little early, and clashed with a lot of primetime shows on the "main" channels.
I do have a feeling either Sky Atlantic or Sofa Screen (from Electric Sofa Media) will pick it up when they launch early next year.
M'colleague says that he occasionally spotted the Daily Show turning up on CNNi - though looking at their schedule, I can't see it or even the Global Edition listed.
Ah well, I guess it'll have to be a 0330 treat to watch it when I'm on night shifts...
CNNI regularly showed The Daily Show Global Edition (with a blurred out Comedy Central logo) regularly in the early 00s certainly. Had to use my Tivo to make sure I recorded it (the joy of wishlists)
I think there is a very good chance another UK channel will pick it up. I'm not sure about Sky Atlantic, because it's focus seems to be on drama (mostly U.S. premium cable pickups, some U.S. basic cable pickups, and the occasional original UK production). Comedy Central UK & Ireland might be a good bet, as it is part-owned by the corporation that owns Comedy Central USA.
In the mean time, if you use Mozilla Firefox, there is a fairly easy way to get round the geoblocking and watch The Daily Show (and the Colbert Report) on their websites. I shall say no more.

CNN International used to air Global Edition at weekends until very recently - I think they were still airing on CNN International up until the end of last year or perhaps early this year.
So Channel 4, persist in showing the cropped version of The Snowman.
and the 2002 animated 'Father Christmas' introduction rather than the live action Raymond Briggs or Davie Bowie introductions. I'd quite like them to use a different one each year.
