Odd creative choice tonight on the new Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan on Channel 4 (I assume Big Narstie couldn't/didn't say yes to another Big Narstie Show so Mo needed something to do).

They've decided to film a studio-based entertainment show letterboxed with the sketches and VTs in standard 16:9.

It bugs me enough when they crop performances from the musical guests on these kinds of shows. This is just downright distracting.

That is a bit unusual, I wonder if it's being made in 4K?

Aren't people able to shoot 16:9 in 4K?

Apologies if it's a silly question but I know next to nothing about the world of 4K.

I think they’re trying to make this more mainstream as it’s 10pm, pretty sure Narstie was 11pm. Interesting decision that Last Leg is off till the last week of October - I think it’s the biggest break they’ve had in ages?

But yes, the letterbox on this show is so odd!

16:9 4K is the standard isn't it so this seems to purely be a gimmick. Made all the more daft by the first caption that appeared was half over the fake black bar

It did look odd, I didn’t think much of the show from what I saw either.

What ratio do Netflix commission programmes in (as generally they have thinner black lines top & bottom on a 16:9 TV)?
