Aeroplane graveyard would look amazing in 3D.

Very impressed with the whole refresh - probably the first time I've liked everything about a new package from "day 1". ECP has been tweaked ever so slightly -- they've just got rid of the line between the "4" and the programme info -- but probably still needs a bit of work. Otherwise, fantastic job all round.

The ECP even more the weak link now than it was before. Never really been a huge fan of it throughout - indeed the better version was the smaller version they used initially for some older shows where, like the previous one, it was just a third of the screen. Not so much a case of it being less intrusive, but it just looked slightly better smaller IMO. It surely wouldn't be too difficult to come up with something new for this look in a similar style to the new menus.

Out of the three "new" idents I think the Blackpool one is my favourite. Scrapheap is good too, but the planes just look too flat and don't really fit into the concept of the 4 coming together briefly. That said though an unexpected treat to see them debut today. Would be nice though to see C4 do something at Christmas - I've given up on them having idents, but making the graphics slightly more festive surely shouldn't be too difficult.

Couldn't agree more. When you look back at the effort they used to put into their Christmas presentation throughout the 80s, it's a crying shame there's nothing to speak of now.

Do they still use the Dubai ident? I always thought that absolutely nailed the whole concept, with the exact 4 formation realistically integrated within the environment and a brilliantly executed reveal but its appearances seem(ed) something of a rarity.

Think it was called "Old Man", with crates of beer forming the 4.

I remember it was available to view for some reason on C4's website (possibly somewhere in the Sales bit) and IIRC it was a pretty long one. I wonder why they never used it.

Wasn't he walking along a corridor and the crates would form the 4, he'd turn around and they'd all disappear or something like that?

There was also that ident with a student watching Countdown when Des Lynam was on it which I think was briefly used on TV.

Have they stopped using that God awful banner squashing the image at the end of programmes then? Laughing

Am I alone in thinking that 'Blackpool' and 'Scrapyard' have the most obscure '4'? I can almost work it out on 'Scrapyard' but I can barely see it in 'Blackpool'...

I'm the same, the 4 form-up is far less identifiable in these. And where a 4 shape is identifiable, it's not exactly faithful to the actual 4 logo.

For that reason, they're not great.

I agree. The lead-ins are good but the logo form-ups are poor. The Blackpool ident is the weakest - it never actually forms up properly (in particular, there's a huge gap between the lower left-hand block - the duct on the side of the building - and the lower central column - the BINGO sign), the tower just doesn't work as the right-hand column because it's too curvy, and the top piece isn't even a separate piece.
