Given people are being critical of them for removing 4HD, I wonder if they'll try and somehow spin out their usual party piece:-
"Channel 4 has a remit to produce challenging and thought provoking programming. Removing the free HD version of our satellite channel so it becomes more challenging to receive fulfills this remit!"

Has the announcement come from C4 or Freesat - that might be telling as to who is effectively withdrawing the service.
I've just had an email from Channel 4, from being signed up to All4 which I've never used, saying:
which at least hints that this is a still-developing situation.

We are writing to let you know that, regrettably, the All 4 app and Channel 4 HD will not be available on the Freesat platform, from Thursday 22nd February.

We will be back in touch with any further updates.

It's just carriage on the Freesat platform viewers should still be able to manually tune into the missing channels. Or do Freesat boxes not have that facility?

On my Freesat TV, Channel 4 HD is 126 but SD is 104. ITV HD is however 103 as it is the correct region.
No - because Channel 4 are replacing 4HD with 4SD. The forth highest slot on the EPG is still protected.

Terrible news for Freesat viewers.
Here's Channel 4's reasoning for the removal:
“We’re disappointed Freesat is changing its charging structure, leading to a very significant cost increase for Channel 4, which ultimately takes funding away from our content investment budget. To reduce the overall burden of our Freesat costs and make internal savings we have regrettably given notice to withdraw All 4 and C4 HD while we consider our long term relationship with Freesat.”
Still, this is a terrible move, and puts Freesat at a disadvantage compared to Freeview.
All4 and 4HD will be leaving Freesat on Thursday, according to an email sent out to registered users this morning:

We’re sorry to announce that All 4 and 4HD will be leaving Freesat on Thursday 22nd February, 2018.
Channel 4 is still available in standard definition, but any recordings you have scheduled for 4HD will need to be re-set in SD (via channel 104).
E4, More 4, 4seven and Film4 remain unaffected and can be accessed via the TV guide as usual, but the rollback guide and catch-up TV for all of the Channel 4 channels will no longer be available via your Freesat box.

AIUI Freesat is owned by the BBC and ITV. I suspect they are trying to share the platform costs more equally amongst those on the platform, and want to stop subsidising other channels on it, and as C4 is the most watched channel that isn't currently sharing the platform costs the new costing system is designed to remedy that? (There's no subscription income to pay for the platform - and there are real costs to operating it.)

Freesat is already the least watched platform - would be interested to know the reasoning behind their price increase.
