Let's hope this show can survive without its much hyped 'ChatNav' then. I personally found it boring and I don't see what the online nonsense could add to it really.

It flopped as it deserved to do so really - averaged 1.2m, with an audience falling from 1.5m to 0.7m over the hour.

Just watched this week's edition "This is England '86" online.

I hope it doesn't sound too hyperbolic, but the end of the episode has made me feel numb, as profound a response as I've had to an episode of a British drama series for quite a while.

It's hard to even comment on that scene - very, very powerful and distressing, but a very worthy piece of drama. I think too one of the few scenes of that nature where it was just portrayed as nasty as it is with absolutely no attempts to explain the perpetrators behaviour, which made it even more difficult to watch.

Also although I'm sure they will be (and already are) critised for it, I'm glad they kept the warning to just the beginning of the show and didn't pre-empt the final part with one, which would have basically revealed what was coming up and possibly taken away it's impact. Really annoys me with some films C4 show late at night that they'll stick a warning after every ad break even though it's often past midnight and anyone watching the film C4 are showing at the time would know what to expect.

The Inbetweeners performing exceptionally for E4 this series - over 2.6m viewers again last night, but over the week the audience is actually double that.

The first episode got an official rating of 3,456,000 on E4, 511,000 on +1 and 438,000 on its Thursday repeat, giving a total of 4,405,000 viewers. Add in over 1m who watched it on C4 on Friday and that's 5.5m - and we're still missing the figures for E4+1 and C4+1 on Thursday/Friday - so probably talking about an audience of 6m.

During the three advert breaks of the Trinny and Susannah programme last night there was an advert that was made to look like a programme (apart from the text saying 'This is an advertisement' at the bottom of the screen of course). It was presented by Anna Richardson and was called 'Science Behind the Beauty'. It was made to look like a consumer programme with Anna Richardson travelling to various locations to interview experts. Part One tested Oral-B's claim that their electric toothbrush removed more plaque, Part Two tested Olay's claim that their moisturiser removed more wrinkles and part three put Head and Shoulders to the test. All three products tested are owned by Proctor and Gamble and you probably won't be surprised to learn that all three of them achieved top marks.

At the end of the final part Anna Richardson said you could visit the website, http://sciencebehindthebeauty.com/ (which doesn't seem to be working this morning, but you can go here) to 'watch the show again' and to suggest other products she should test. I'm not sure if last night was the first showing and I am not sure if it will be shown again. It reminds of the paint advert that was shown during Dancing on Ice last year(?) that was done in the style of a DIY programme and they set themselves the challenge of decorating a house before the end of Dancing on Ice. If I remember correctly they actually mentioned Dancing on Ice in the advert and I don't think it was ever shown again.

The "Science Behind The Beauty" ads have aired before, mainly during major programming. They had a same idea last year during The X Factor on ITV1 and also a paint company (Dulux?) did the same thing, but repeated the hell out of them.

Max Factor have also been doing their "makeover breaks" for quite a while now.

A satisfying ending to "This is England '86" (only watching now), with exemplary writing, direction and above all, acting. Well done and thanks to the cast and crew.

And a treat to have extended end credits covering the four episodes and the wonderful (and appropriate) "The Bitterest Pill..." by the Jam on the final episode. Did this sequence go out like that on Channel 4 - and without interruption?

Of course not - we got some plug for something (probably Seven Days, as C4 were still flogging that dead horse last week!)

Really hopes it gets recommissioned in an extended form - they've got to get the balance right between milking it and cutting it off in it's prime, but I think there is potential for at least two eight-part series in there.
