I wonder if they could do a Simpsons marathon akin to the US ‘every Simpson ever’ marathon (but obviously not every single one, only up to the part Channel 4 is licensed to) to bring attention to the channel. It’s something that I’m puzzled someone like Sky haven’t done sooner, who could make a pop up channel for it etc

The split between C4 (and previously BBC) and Sky showing The Simpsons has always been interesting. I don't know what exactly is written in the contracts, but it seems there is a gentleman's agreement if nothing else that when C4 has an episode on, Sky won't show one and vice versa.

Similarly it seems that each channel agrees to have a certain season in rotation, the other channel will take it out of rotation. I don't know if that's still the case, I don't watch much Simpsons on either channel these days. I don't know if either are a hard and fast rule or not, as there are occasions when the channels overlap - often at Christmas when both channels put on marathons.

A long winded way of getting to the point, that perhaps there is something in the contracts that make it tough for Sky to do a non-stop FXX style marathon?

They should have a Simpsons Night with like Simpsons Theme Programs like they did in 2004

Channel 4 is four years behind - about to start season 25 and 29 is currently on in the US.

I think it's always been about that ever since they got the rights. They first showed Season 12 in 2004 and that debuted in 2000 in America

Yep it’s always been four years behind. If anyone remembers the Ricky Gervais episode that premiered during the Sky Onc era, you might remember the cheeky ‘apology’ they made during the break about Channel 4 being four years behind with their episodes.

I'm sure at launch C4 had the rights to their "new" season (from 4 years ago) and then 5 earlier series, and then as they got a new series the archive series moved on a year as well. Whether that is still the case (or indeed ever was) I'm not sure.

What surprises me is actually how poor it rates in the US - can be as little as 3-4m viewers most weeks.

Like one of the many of the shows in jokes Fox will continue to produce it until it becomes unprofitable, that or when one of the main voice artists die.

End of the day it still seems to do well in syndication and for international sales, would seem stupid to stop it. Surprised that Fox haven’t demoted it in the states. American Dad moved to TBS, weirder that it goes from a Fox to a Turner station.

That move seemed to be more of a creative choice than simply cancellation. Family Guy has been aired on Adult Swim for years.

Fox did axe American Dad but TBS picked it up for the past three seasons.

Interesting preview for a McDonald's advert(?) during Big Band Theory on E4 tonight. Essentially it was a screen full of carrots in Channel 4 block shapes with a reindeer eating them.

Is it just me who finds Channel Fourderman (hehe) kinda unsettling? I don't know what it is about it, but something just unsettles me every time I see it. Maybe it's those blocky, non-existent eyes.

However, I think the new idents are pretty good, would just be nice to have more of them added to the set so it isn't repetitive. I'd like to see a few Christmas idents with our new blocky friend.
