I suppose you could count the breakbumper as some form of ID

Absolutely, they managed to ID the channel about 3 times - on the end credits, between the programmes and then on the sponsorship sting of the next one.

Just Channel 4's or idents in general?

I've said it before but the concept of always having an ident (as we know them now) and announcement before every programme is very outdated

Well idents in general. Wouldn't agree the concept is outdated at all - it's a much welcome part of British broadcasting, even if other countries don't use them. Of course the purpose of an ident may change slightly in such circumstances, but I think a brief pause between two shows is necessary - especially when they are both sponsored.

I'm all in favour of "accelerated flow" between programmes - but keep the idents please. I wouldn't even mind an extra break within half-hour and hour-long programmes to enable it, although with current rules with hour-long programmes at least it's possible to do it without extra breaks.

Along the lines of how ABC had it then.

The problem with the lack of idents before and after programmes is that encourages, even dictates, the use of DOGs. Something that shouldn't be encouraged at all.

This is of course the reason America has bugs on it's shows, the big annoying straps and other things
In britain, such IDs make no sense as we get told about the next show in the ident too.
If you axe the idents, DOGs and straps are justified, and no longer useless.

Talking of on screen junk, I wish C4 would sort out the one they use across the bottom so it's an overlay rather than squeezing the picture. Prefer the one they use bottom right really with the logo even though it's bigger - it just looks better.

I don't mind these in-programme pointers as long as they're used at the right time. They seem to make much more sense the way the US use them returning from a break rather than at the end of a show just seconds before we get an ECP with the same information anyway.

The caption at the bottom on C4 that squeezes the picture up actually damages the picture quality and it appears jumpy.

Not good!

Although American network channels have very faint bugs throughout shows and more visable ones at the very start and end of a part for a few seconds. It's perfectly possible to do the latter without having it on screen for the whole programme

I've found that quite annoying, seems their new graphics technology is unable to maintain the full interlaced 50fps framerate when scaling the video, reducing the frame rate to 25fps progressive.

Now watching The Simpsons on Channel 4 & the Sky Green button for remind is on screen!

EDIT: After 1 minute (Amish programme) the reminder has disappeared - not sure how that works now. Confused

What do you mean by "Amish programme"? What programme was the reminder for?

I've brought this up somewhere else in this thread, I really don't know why it can't overlap instead of squashing the picture. Perhaps if enough of us brought it up, they'll tweak it.

Actually there's 2 versions of the bottom IPP, one that squashes the picture upwards and one that simply overlays.
