Granted I'm not a TV scheduler, but I would have thought it was relatively harmless to schedule an afternoon of Simpsons on a Sunday, when there usually isn't much else on (particularly new programming). If it continued all day it would be a fair point, but it doesn't. Why not do something fun, for one day of the year?

Whilst we're on the subject, it was slightly interactive today with the CA asking trivia questions you could answer over Twitter for the chance of having your name read out on air.

So as they're still not able to get their hands on Elf Channel 4 are airing The Jungle Book tomorrow at 5.25pm, advertising it as the first time on network TV. I know outings for Disney classics are few and far but I'm amazed it's not appeared at least once over the last 48 years on terrestrial TV.

The way C4 have worded the ads it's as if it's a free to air TV premiere, rather than the first time on C4.

A late entry for Most Idiotic TV Forum Post of the Year?

Why do you say that? It is interesting that an 'A-list' Disney film is finally getting a TV showing. As is another, judging by the above post. Usually it's just the second-rate Disney films that get TV outings.

A few of the "bigger" films seem to have popped up over the last couple of years, I think Channel 5 have shown a few. They seem to have changed their tact anyway- their films seem to be out on DVD all the time now, whereas their policy used to be to only have them out for a few months then take them away for several years.

Maybe they've realised in this day and age keeping them off TV and restricting them on DVD really doesn't work any more. Presumably more likely to encourage piracy rather than make people anticipate the re-release.

Maybe the fact he said hours instead of years, which has now been corrected?

Yes but I think that has aired on terrestrial a few times. ITV definitely showed it a few years ago, along with "Tangled" when they briefly lost the Harry Potter rights to Sky and bought in some Disney/Pixar films to fill the spot.

Disney used to be very strict on what premiered in order not to damage their very lucrative Children's home Video/ DVD market.
Iirc BBC One premiered "The Lady and the Tramp" on Christmas Eve just a few years ago. 50+ years after its release. Pretty sure the Lion King hasn't been shown yet either.

Correct. I happily rescind my claim, as he's made a much better entry in the I'm a Celebrity thread:

Always annoyed me that they didn't just get around that by naming them the "Celebrity of the Jungle".

I'll never claim that title as long as you're around! Wink
