I really can't warm to that newish continuity announcer who's been on tonight. He doesn't sound natural at all IMO but he's been doing it long enough.

I agree. Too shouty and not good tone at all! Reminds me of that guy from the BBC Three 'blobs' era who kept calling it 'BBC free' and was always shouting instead of just speaking calmly.

Channel 4 was better when vuyiswa ngqobongwana was an announcer. Such an amazing deep, husky voice! Who else remembers her?

Does anybody know anything about tonight's continuity announcements on channel 4?

I presume that it's somebody with a disability that uses a speaking computer to communicate.

I was wondering about the reason for it. They've had two documentaries about school children on preceded by embarrassing bodies. It doesn't appear to be connected to either of these.

Last year they had a few people do it as part of Born Risky - they're bringing a few of them back it seems, just as part of their normal announcer team. The announcer with tourettes was on last week too I think.

Ah. Explains a lot. Thank you.

I did like the line used of "Don't panic thinking that the channel has broken because of the way that it sounds, and phone the police as they are already on their way at 11".

The gentleman doing the AD for the 18:00 The Simpsons episode keeps calling Mrs Krabappel, Mrs "Crab-apple" . Can you believe it? The episode is Grade School Confidential, where she gets together with Principal Skinner, so her name comes up in AD a lot.

Has anybody else signed up for the feedback thing they're currently advertising?

I've signed up and filled in a couple of surveys, I was quite interested in one survey that was sent today. The theme was News, and the last question stated, that on between 1 and 5 (ie bad to good) would you be interested by News summaries filling in the breaks on 4OD or 60 second News bulletins hourly on E4...? Needless to say the latter sounds more interesting, good to see they're potentially thinking of something like this.

I have. It was an interesting question. They clearly want to push the news brand further than the 7pm bulletin but are unsure on the best approach. The BBC Three model works well as it's supplying BBC News to an audience that may not watch the main bulletin, something that itv should consider with itv2.

ITV2 (3 and 4) already have the showbiz bulletin F.Y.I. produced by ITN which is used as commercial filler between movie breaks.

Never understood ITV3 or ITV4 having the Showbiz bulletins to be honest, doesn't really suit the channels. Fine for tacky ITV2 though.

As for Channel 4, I think concentrating on more News updates for the main channel would be more useful.

The main reason for the showbiz updates is to fill a time slot. Viva does it aswell.
