Why does it have to say Born Risky?

As Channel 4 are broadcasting in the UK not Russia, it posses no risk to anyone. The worse that could possibly come out of this is a couple Daily Mail readers getting complaints ignored by Ofcom.

A cynical person might suggest this it nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt.

I think that's the bit that irks me most. On one hand you can't declare to be an "out and proud" supporter of gay rights - then declare that taking that position is somehow risky.

All the main UK news and current affairs broadcasters have done a good job at highlighting the barbaric stuff that's going on in Russia, but I kindof expect that from a good broadcast media. To proclaim that doing your job well for once is 'risky' just irritates me. As you can probably tell.

The Born Risky thing is odd, even though it is a channel set up to take risks, it seems like the wrong way to word it. The concept worked on the 'Born Risky' trail, but not elsewhere. I didn't think it sat well with the disabled continuity announcers either.

Maybe if the Russian Gay thing was done better then it would deserve the tag. It could have been much more cutting and satirical rather than relying on gay stereotyping. The stuff the Last Leg has been doing about Putin is probably more risky by the sounds of it

How far do we think C4 is going to go?!

We seem to have found the only person in Britain who thinks they've taken a risk.

No further than producing that.

Well, considering how most people in this thread are saying the promo was inappropriate, one could say it was a risky decision to put it to air.

I don't see anything wrong with that promo.

I don't think they intended to offend gay people though.

It's the 'born risky' thing which really annoys people above everything else, I think. If they just said it's a bit of a tongue in cheek dig at Russian government perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. But it's like they're waving around trying to grab people's attention saying "look at us aren't we risky" in a gormless voice.

A lot of gay people don't really like to be represented in such a stereotypical way either.

I think the promo is hilarious, and absolutely nothing about it offends me at all (including the 'Born Risky' slogan).

I am a gay man. The only thing I find offensive is when some heterosexual people decide to be offended on my behalf.

It's like how, say, if somebody 'drops an N-bomb' (or similar) on television, most of the complainants always seem to be caucasian people. Rolling Eyes

If you're referring to my posts, you've misunderstood. Personally, I find the promo stereotypical and a bit childish. I don't need to take my or your or anyone else's sexuality into account when forming that opinion.

But my overall point is just how cringey Channel 4 is becoming by shouting "look at us, aren't we risky" when they aren't really...
Even if they were, they should let viewers decide rather than trying to get their own PR-created hashtag trending. This "risky" marketing campaign has annoyed me previously, nothing to do with anyone's sexuality.

Whatever your opinion on the trailer or Channel 4 itself at the moment, don't let it cloud your judgement of The Last Leg, which is still as brilliant as ever (and in its element again now that we're in an Olympics season).

I do like The Last Leg but heavens, Adam Hills is bloody awful at trying to pretend scripted stuff is spontaneous. "Hey, I'll tell you what we'll do, let's do something we've already got these graphics set up for!", all that.

I do enjoy it, though, I think Alex Brooker is absolutely brilliant, he's so funny. I love how all his jokes are about Nandos, trainers and video games.

Agree - easily the best show on C4 at the moment and it's a shame it doesn't get a bigger audience than it does.
