Interesting capture from just as 'The TV Show' was starting on C4 earlier today.

The programme is made by Princess Productions in London, so not sure why this was shown which seems to imply a feed from ITN (does the MCR mean Manchester, perhaps?)

Could it be that the programme was coming from a studio rented from ITN?

It comes from Princess Productions own studio - it's the same set as The Wright Stuff, and previously RI:SE.

Is anyone going to give that number a call?

Now you've pointed out the number - it is incorrectly formatted. The area code is 020 not 0207.

That bugs me too when any company fails put telephone numbers in the correct format. It's not rocket science!

I appreciate that London has been messed about with numerous code changes for the last 20 years, but they should've realised that the area code is 020 by now!

But they are not alone. I don't think I've seen a telephone number for Northern Ireland shown as 028 xxxx xxxx.

Mobile numbers should be shown as 5 + 6 digits, not simply a string of 11. It's easier to say than a row of 11 consecutive digits, and therefore easier to remember.

Coventry - where I lived all my life until last week - is another one of the very few places to have adopted the (02x) xxxx xxxx format, and 99% of everybody gets that wrong too. They put (02476) xxx xxx, when it should be (024) 76xx xxxx. I don't understand how people in all the (02x) cities/areas can find it so bloody hard to get right. As someone's already said, it's not rocket science! Evil or Very Mad

I agree with all of that too Smile

I also believe in splitting the main (i.e. non-dialling code) part of the number in two, with a space (e.g. (02x) xxxx [space] xxxx or (01xxx) xxx [space] xxx). I've done that all my life, as I feel that even six-eight digits is slightly too long altogether in one go.

Notice they broadcast the Simpsons this evening complete with the word w*nkers. I'm assuming that was a mistake though, no apology at the end and I doubt they realised as they let Mr. Burns repeat the line.

Am I right in thinking that in America w*nkers is not considered to be much of a swear word. Or 'bloody' for that matter. I remember wacthing The New Tom And Jerry Show and they met an English sea captain that said bloody all the time. This went out at 10.00am in the school holidays and boy were there complaints!!!

Its seen as a peculiar "English" swear word in the states, but its actual meaning is largely unknown.

Bob Hoskins made an appearance on the 80s hit show Miami Vice as an English villian.

He said in an interview that nearly every line his character had contained the word "w*nker". He thought this was odd and explained its meaning to the producers - who promptly cut every utterance of it out of the script.

What a spoilsport. At least we still have Mr. Wanker in Mork and Mindy (why is a clip of this not on YouTube?) and foul mouthed Wilma Flintstone... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuCbrPzPLAc

There is also another Simpsons episode, Missionary: Impossible (features the Thames ident at the start Smile), which spoofs the English use of w*nker as a swear word, I take it C4 managed to cut that one when it was aired.

I remember them showing lots of unbleeped Simpsons clips on Channel 4 with the word in on the night they first got the rights to the show. I remember lots of shocked laughter from the audience on the 'Simpsons quiz' they did that night when they showed one of the clips, I think it was the first time ever they'd shown the scene in question on British TV uncut!
