Another edgy commision for Channel 4....

It's almost as if someone watched Harry Hill's World of TV, saw it, and thought "that used to be popular we could reboot it". Cue more upset reactions to shocking room makeovers, this time generating clickbait articles and twitter storms.

To quote the press release 'Channel 4 in partnership with Dulux has commissioned Banijay to make...'

Ahh. An advertiser funded vehicle then.

And there's me thinking they were going to pay for it by having a whip round in the office.

Shame they haven't signed up Linda Barker and Anna Ryder Richardson as well.

I have heard stories that the quality of the finish in the original Changing Rooms (largely the work of the production team with the neighbours just doing bits for the cameras) was quite poor. HD cameras will not be so forgiving.

I think Anna Ryder Richardson now runs a zoo. Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen has had quite a bit of success outside of the UK with The Apartment in Asia and House Rules in Australia. Indeed House Rules is (or was) my guilty pleasure when it comes to Aussie reality shows - the basic concept was six teams renovated each others houses. Would like to have seen a UK version but I suspect planning and building control constraints and the nature of UK homes compared to those in Australia would make it tricky.

Interesting though it is advertiser funded - you don't often get that with hour long primetime series. Indeed I thought this revival might be destined for daytime - indeed possible long term that might be where it ends up. Could actually work as an alternative to The Chase/Pointless.

Given C4's financial issues - having it subsidised by an advertiser up-front probably makes sense.

That marketing tag has become ironic in the last few years.
