What are those red things meant to be? Also, they could've incorportated the arrows into the design more e.g. she could be standing on an arrow or something, rather than just have them floating in the background.
At least the cost cutting is with the presentation, not the programs... for the moment at least...
They could at least show the floor like they do now on GMTV weather, I think its better when they show the floor it dosen't look like the presenter is floating
I wasn't around for the broomcupboard (I dont think, 1985) but by the sounds of it, they should give Gemma a desk or something and have the greenscreen a the backdrop to kind of morph the current idea into a broomcupboard, at least that way she could read out emails and stuff
It's like one of those futuristic sets from the 1990s!
They do need something else there just so it's not her and the screen - a stool, podium or even a plasma (obviously not neccessary, but it distracts from the background!)
Perhaps some interaction with a disembodied voice - or maybe a gloved hand appearing from the right!

First thought that occured to me when I saw this was 'Broom cupboard done badly with a green screen'
It looks like a downsized version of the broom cupboard (desks and chairs are so expencive!). This sort of green screen works good for weather and occasional news pieces.
But for something like CBBC I think they need something physical or a better designed background.
Anything to make it look less cheep and local cable channel circa 1990...
